Ryan's POV

The day of the battle had arrived, I opened my eyes slowly, revelling in the last few minutes I could spend in bed with the love of my life. I was fully rested and knew I'd be ready for this battle.

I sat up and ran my fingers through my messy hair and looked down at Violet, she was still fast asleep. I knew she was worrying about what the outcome of today's battle would be, as was I. Moving a piece of her soft hair from her face, I thought of how beautiful my mate was and I was truely happy that I'd sacrificed my life with my parents and pack for her.

Violet stirred a little but stayed asleep, after I left our bed so I hopped in the shower quickly. Thoughts of my tactics for battle rattled through my brain while I showered, I felt that I needed to think this through before later. After I'd shut the water off and dried off, I pulled on the clothes that I'd wear underneath my strong armour later and crept to the kitchen, hoping Violet wasn't going to wake up yet because I wanted to prepare one last surprise before I had to go..

I was stirring the eggs and milk in the frying pan repeatedly until I heard the door creak open, Violet walked in slowly, taking a seat on a stool. She looked tired. "Mornin', I'm making us breakfast," I said cheerfully, attempting to lighten the mood before I left.

"Hey Honey, thanks for doing this for me, want help?" She offered.

"Nah, it's fine baby, I wanted to make you one last treat before I see you again later." I winked at her, acting cockily, letting on I was confident I'd be returning with victory tonight. I wasn't truely 100% confident, but I didn't want Violet to over-stress.

Violet smiled warmly at me and I gazed into her eyes for a second before folding and serving the omelet minutes later. We shared the omelet, chatting and laughing as I quickly licked a piece of food from the corner of her mouth. After our breakfast, Violet was visibly more relaxed and I was glad. I memorised the details of her face during this time because I'd be taking every memory of her to battle with me. The memories would motivate me to make sure I returned victorious, just seeing her bright smile again would force me to return.

I stood up and put the dishes in the sink, I didn't want to waste time washing them now, it was 11:20am already, in 20 minutes I'd be leaving with the men of this pack to meet the soldiers of the Trisaen pack deep in the forest. "I wish you didn't have to go," Violet looked at me wistfully. "I don't want to either, you know that baby."

"We better go to the pack centre soon to get your weapons and armour," Violet replied, she stood and I followed her to the bedroom where she got changed. I helped her stretch her long floral dress over her bump, we smiled at each other as I stroked it softly afterwards. I bent to kiss it softly before taking her small hand and going down the stairs and leaving home.

Soon, we reached the offices of the pack, the crowd to the side of the entrance was huge, soldiers, their wives and their children were all saying goodbye and waiting for the soldiers to go. I kissed Violet's hand chastely and entered the office, she trailed behind me until I found Thomas in his office.

"Good morning Ryan, your weapons and armour are inside this box," Thomas pointed at a bulky, black box in the corner, I walked to it and opened it. Silver armour glinted in the sunlight so I reached into the box and picked it up. It was surprisingly lightweight for how heavy it looked. Thomas walked around his desk and helped me to attach it to myself with clips and belts. In the background I heard Violet's breath catch in her throat as I turned around.

"You look handsome, Ryan. Like a true knight in shining armour," she said lovingly. I grinned at her comment and could see she was checking me out. "Thank you, my loving mate," I winked.
