I've been in 3 foster homes and I've been adopted twice in the last three years. People think they want me as a daughter but then they change their minds. I guess you could say I'm unwanted. It hurts being thrown to the side and being left behind. I lost everything when I was only thirteen years old...

Today my foster mom Betty came in with a smile on her face. She's the only one that has ever truly cared about me in three years so I assumed she was just happy that I was up. Even though she was nice and did care I still wasn't the nicest to her and I still kept my wall up. I didn't want to be around her. I wanted my mom and dad but that wasn't going to happen any time soon. They were gone, never to be seen again.

When I looked up to see Betty still standing there I rolled my eyes. I was reading a book that I've loved since I was 12 given to me by my mom. Bettys smile faded away after I did what I did. For a moment I felt bad but then that feeling quickly went away and I wanted to be left alone. Still Betty was kind and didn't yell at me for being rude and just said "Lena I have some good news." Betty seemed nervous and was shifting her wait from foot to foot. I looked from my book to her and back to my book and then chose to at least listen to what she had to say. "Alright, I'm listening." I told her.
Betty put a smile on her face again. Betty had a warm smile that made me want to stop being mean to her but I didn't listen to that feeling. Betty went on to say "A nice lady named Lisa would like to adopt you! Isn't this exciting?"
"Yea... I'm giddy" yet again I rolled my eyes as I said it knowing that like the others this family would throw me into the trash.
"Lena, I know these people personally and they are lovely. Lisa along with her husband Sean have three kids. Two boys and a girl. The boys are twins and they are a bit older then you. The girl is older then all three of you and in college." Betty honestly seemed happy for me but I couldn't imagine getting pushed out again. Plus they already have kids they aren't going to want me after at most a month. I looked at Betty trying to be excited so I wouldn't hurt her feelings anymore but I couldn't do it. "They aren't going to want me after a month." I could feel myself shaking a bit at the thought of being thrown away again. Betty looked disappointed in me for thinking such things so I went on "No one ever wants me." Now Betty looked upset at the thought. "That's not true. I want you but I'm not allowed to keep you and this family is so loving and kind. You'll be in a good school district. You'll make new friends. You'll have siblings and everything and they will love you just like I do." Bettys eyes started to water. The thought of what she said didn't seem bad. It sounded wonderful even but I knew deep down it wasn't going to happen. I got up and hugged Betty because I honestly do care about her. She tries to help I just won't let her. "Thank you Betty. I mean it. Thank you for what you say and what you do for me. But what if they don't like me?" Betty looked at me with a sad smile "They will. Trust me." And with that she said "Get packing honey they will be her in a few hours." Betty looked sad
"Okay, but what if I don't like them?"
"You will!"
"How do you know?"
"Trust me Lena,You will."
Betty left the room teary eyed obviously sad that I was leaving. I was sad as well but I was also mad that I have to go where people place me and live with families that don't want me. With that I began to pack up all my belongings. It wasn't much but it took a long time. When I finished packing I layed in my bed and started reading "The last song" again. I was almost done with the book. Only a few chapters left when I heard the doorbell ring. My heart stopped and I nearly dropped the book on my head when I heard Betty letting someone in. I knew it was my new family. Well I knew it was the family that was going to send me back after a month. I tried to push the thoughts away and I tried hard to be positive but I didn't want to go. I didn't want to get told that I wasn't wanted again. I eventually decided to just stay in my room until Betty came to get me and I was hoping that it would be a while. After only a few minutes I heard a knock on my door. The knock was soft and I assumed it was Betty. After a moment of hesitation I let who I thought would be Betty in. When I opened the door i was surprised to see two unfamiliar faces standing in front of me. The twins... I thought. This must be them. I could tell the difference between them easily but I didn't know their names yet. All of a sudden they were introducing themselves. The shorter one gave me his hand and said "Hi I'm Ethan but a lot of people call me E."I took Ethans hand and shook shyly. Ethan seemed nice and his smile was bright and big. Then the other one put his hand out and said "I'm Grayson and mostly everyone calls me Gray." I then took Graysons hand as well. He seemed nice too. I eventually said "Hi... I'm Lena... a lot of people call me Lena." The boys looked at eachother and laughed as if I made a joke. Their laugh was contagious and it made me smile. "Nice to meet you Lena!" They said at the same time like they planned it. "Can we grab any bags for you?" Ethan asked me.
"No I think I'll be okay it's not much but thanks." I said shyly not looking at either one of them. Then we all just stood there. My heart was pounding...
While I was gathering all my things together I heard Grayson ask "So... what do you like to do in your free time?" I turned around to face him and said nothing then I went back to getting my belongings. As I was quadruple checking to make sure I had everything I could feel their eyes on my neck watching me. I whipped my head around and both of them looked away. Grayson started looking around and Ethan went on to ask a question. "Well if you won't answer his questions I'll ask one. What's your favorite book?" Ethan seemed to be stubborn. I don't want to answer him but something in me was telling me I should so I grabbed my book from off my bed and tossed it to him. Ethan caught the ball and examined it. "The last song? Is it any good?" He asked
"Well it's my favorite book so what do you think I would say?" I know I was being smart but it was kind of fun messing with him. I went on to say "So is your favorite book any good?"
As Grayson stood there wide eyed at my remark even though it wasn't that good Ethan said "I don't know why don't you read it." I couldn't tell if he was teasing or if he was annoyed so I went to look at him and his expression was unreadable.
"Well what's your favorite book then?"
"I don't know do you have any recommendations?"
With that I rolled my eyes. He was clearly teasing me now. I snatched my book out of his hands, put it in my backpack, and said "I just showed you one."
"I don't know if you guys are joking or if you hate eachother already but this is amusing." Grayson laughed
"I'll let you two decide which one it is." I said as I walked out of the door leaving some things behind. "You don't need to get that stuff I'll make a second trip." And with that I walked away.

Ethans P.O.V:

When Lena walked out of the room I turned to Gray who was wide eyed mouth opened.
"What just happend Bro?" I asked
"We just met our new sister." Graysons words made my heart drop. I had forgotten that Lena was my sister. She was pretty and she seemed to know who she was. I couldn't quite figure her out either which made me want to get to know her. I had to remind myself a few times that she was my sister.
"Are you okay man?" Grayson asked me which pulled me out of my thoughts.
"Yea I'm good."
"Do you think we should grab her stuff for her?"
"No she might get mad she told us not to."
"Its still a nice thing to do."
"Yes, but she said not to though."
"Are you scared of her or something?"
Graysons words stung.
"Of course I'm not scared I just can't figure her out."
"You've known her for like 10 minutes."
"Yea and I like her already. She seems nice but she also seems scared and behind a wall."
"Yea but that's okay we just met her."
"She's pretty don't you think?"
"E she is our sister!"
"I just said she was pretty."
Grayson rolled his eyes at me.
"Yes she is pretty but she is our sister. Okay?"
I winced at his words hoping he didn't notice and with that Lena came back in.
"What did you touch?" Lena said
"Nothing" I said quickly maybe to quickly.
"Mmmhmmm"
Lena went down to grab her backpack but she dropped it. I bent down to pick it up at the same time she did. My hand accidently grazed hers and she flinched moving her hands quickly.
"I'm sorry..." I said hesitantly
"...Its Okay."
"I didn't mean to do that.."
"Its okay Ethan why are you so jumpy I'm the one that's supposed to be nervous." Lena walked out of the room with everything that belonged to her leaving me and Gray alone.
