I was floating on a cloud in heaven. Everywhere around me there was light shining in the darkness. It was intimidating yet peaceful. I closed my eyes, staying in the moment forever... Nothing mattered. I was nothing, I was light. Then the whole world started shaking.
I blinked.
My eyes fluttered open.
"Kate Johnson you better wake up and come to the nearest shopping mall with me in fifteen minutes' time!" Christina was looming over me as I looked at her groggily.
"Why...?" I slurred.
"Why?" She mimicked. "Because Frank is coming back and we are having a party with some invited friends! Wake up sleepyhead! You need some new clothes and makeup. Peter would be there." She smirked.
I sat up immediately after hearing the magical word: Peter. "He's going? He's meeting us?"
Christina nodded smugly. I jumped right out of bed and went to change. My boyfriend would be there. Frank would be there. He was the same age as us, and would be in the same high school after his in New York closed down. I did a little tap dance in front of the mirror. Gosh, what fun it would be.
In less than five minutes' time, I was stalking out of the house with my purse considerably heavier, Christina rushing alongside me. We would be arriving at Owen's house where the party was held in a few hours.
We were soon inside the clothing store.
"What about this? It gives a sexy, chic look. Peter would love it!" Christina held up a black dress that was barely touching my legs. I shook my head instantly. I was not going to look nice in that.
"How about the red one over there? It's nice and classy. It would go along well with my red high-heels." I remarked, pointing at a dress near the counter. Christina looked at it and gave me an approving nod. Quickly we emptied my purse.
After Christina bought a few lipsticks that she was vying for, we made our way to her house. After all, she had an incredible amount of make-up there. While I on the other side did not care too much about my appearance. Who needs beauty when you have food?
"Here. Apply this, and this." Christina handed me a strawberry-pink lipstick and eyeliner. I quickly did the necessities, and soon we were done. I blew a kiss to the girl I saw through the mirror. She looked perfect. Her boyfriend would be impressed.
I grinned to myself.
-
Peter was obviously sweet as usual. "Aw, babe. You look beautiful." He gave me a peck on each cheek and I blushed.
"Don't blush, babe. Though you look cute when you do." He winked at me, making me feel hot. "Me? I'm not...not blushing!" I laughed into his ear and we held hands to Owen's house. His house was easily defined as a party place. Loud music filled my ears as soon as the car screeched to a halt. From the front, I could see drunk teenagers shouting to each other. I stifled a laugh. One of them was imitating a duck.
"Want a drink?" A guy offered me a glass when I walked into the house. Peter squeezed my hands while refusing politely. I glared at him teasingly. I wanted to get drunk today...
"Later, babe. Let's meet Frank first." I nodded and we went to find Christina. She was at the center of attention, hugging Frank as they meet. "Honey, I didn't see you for so long! I missed our dates..." She shrieked and started kissing Frank. I giggled and put my arms around Peter.
"Aww how cute..."
Just then, Frank saw us and winked. Untangling himself from a laughing Christina, he went up to us and patted Peter on the back. "Sup bro? How's life?"
Peter gave a lopsided grin and did the 'bro thing' with him.
"Oh, it was fine. You know, the usual stuff. Hanging out with my girl..." He gave a charming nod in my direction. Heat crawled up my cheeks. Why did I have to blush? Why?
"Babe, don't blush again." Peter teased me. "I'm not...not blushing, Peter!" I covered my face jokingly. He laughed. It was the best music in the world. It was a deep laugh, and it soothed my ears...
"-That's so cute, bro! My Christina is really, really sexy though!" At this moment, Christina chose to arrive. She slammed her hands on Frank's shoulder, grinning widely. "C'mon Frank! You know I'm much more than that!"
Christina is indeed more than that. Beside her, I was apparently non-existent in the world. Every guy tend to stare at her, but I didn't mind that. I have Peter, and he's my world. When I'm with him, nothing matters except him. Yeah, that's how much I love him. I never say it out, since he never did.
I excused myself from their bickering and went to the washroom.
This night could not get any better.
I was planning on dancing with Peter later on, and Christina and I had a bet: Whoever that could get more drunk later would win. Pizza was the winner's treat. Knowing Christina, she makes the most out of a bet, therefore I had to win.
I was so deep in my own thoughts, that I did not notice an abrupt turn by the stairs, and it ended with me colliding with a guy.
I slammed hard into his chest, and I would had thought it was a wall if not for the person wrapping his arms around my waist to steady me. "I'm so...so sorry." I spluttered before looking at him.
What I saw made me open my eyes wider. I froze. Out of all the million people in the world, why did it have to be him?
He was supposed to be in New York. He was supposed to live his unworthy life there, and not bother me again. But here he was, my biggest nightmare standing right in front of me, looking at me with his mouth open.
"K...Kate?" Jace stared at me in shock. I was suddenly very aware of people staring at us. "Yeah. Why...why you 'ere?" I hated myself for not being able to speak confidently in front of him. My frown turned into a glare when his mouth turned upwards, making him looked amused.
"I came back. I came back with Frank."
Oh my God. I should have known.
I was temporarily speechless, but when I recovered, I just sped down the stairs right to the drunken teenagers.
Christina would have to treat me pizzas.
Thanks for reading! I really appreciate all the love in Prologue, and that was what gave me the motivation to write. I hope this chapter is not too short, but it was planned to be like that (you'll see ;)) As usual, please vote and comment if you liked this chapter, and possibly introduce this to others as well :)
