"Hey Dad, there's this thing with the travel club." I started as I casually walked into the kitchen while he was cutting some carrots, "We have this camping thing. Can I go?"
"Camping? Sounds fun. For how long?" He glanced at me shortly then went back to washing the dishes.
"One week." I replied, my fingers crossed.
"One week?" Dad gave me a look, "And how about your school? Are you skipping school for a whole week, Venus Yoo?"
"No, we're going away during the golden week. It's like a holiday week. There's no school for a whole week." I replied, sitting myself down at table and helping him peel the potatoes, "I really want to go."
"I don't know kid. Let me think about it tonight." Dad said as he finished washing the potato cubes and put them in the casserole.
"Okay, uh, do you need help with something?" I offered because I know I need to get on his good side. I need to work hard for him to allow me to go to the fake camping trip.
"Not really. I'm practically done here anyway." He added, busy adding spices on the casserole. "On second thought, can you get me the salt? The new one is in the cupboard."
"Here." I handed him the salt and watched as he sprinkled a tiny bit of it on the casserole.
He glanced at me and smiled because I was so lost as I watched him cooking. It's always been a wonder to me how he got so good in cooking when he literally burnt an egg into charcoal before. I only realized that Dad was watching me when he chuckled at me.
"You remind me of your mom so much." Dad smiled warmly at me as he patted the top of my head gently. "My precious daughter."
I smiled up at him, "Don't get sentimental in me now. You know I hate it. Besides, it doesn't suit you, Dad."
He laughed heartily, "Yeah I know. Go on and do your homework or something. I need to see your high grades before I allow you to go to the camping trip. I'll call you when dinner is ready."

Saturday morning
Dad has gone to work already when I woke up. I got up and made my bed before I washed my face and brushed my teeth. My hair has always been uncooperative in the mornings so I just let it be. Besides, it's Saturday morning. I don't have to move a single muscle until later this afternoon for another practice with the team. To be honest, I'm a bit excited for practice later because Coach said he has our uniforms! I'll finally be able to wear my own uniform with the name and everything! I told Sydney this and she was as hyped up as me. She even offered to take stills of me when I play in my uniform later.
I literally screamed when I saw it, the note that was pinned by the fridge:
Better start packing your bags for that camping trip.
Love,
the coolest dad in the world
"Dad, you are just the awesomest!" I shouted as I jumped around and squealed. My day just couldn't get any better.
The doorbell rang. I knew it was going to be Sydney because Saturday mornings is our thing. She rang it again, "Coming Syd! Calm your tits please."
"Are there pancakes? There better be pancakes because that's all I'm here for." Sydney said as I let her inside.
We moved to the kitchen where Dad left us food. He knew Syd was coming for a visit so he cooked for two. "You know sometimes I wonder if you're really my best friend or you're just using me for food." I told her. "Are you just using me for food?"
