dear ever,
you were persistent, where's that attitude now? i miss that. i miss you. after that party you searched for me right? I heard you followed me out but you didn't get to me on time. but you were part of the student council so that made things easier because the next day, i was knocking at your door. you were cute as well but i didn't tell you that.
I counted the money in the envelope and checked at the pile of student schedules that I have in my hand. Bree was too hangover to fulfil her duties as the class representative, so she begged me to do it for her. As the kind and very loving roommate and best friend that I am, I did it in exchange for a favor.
"The things I do for you," I muttered to myself while I knocked at the door.
"It's not yet eight, the office isn't open!" a voice shouted. I looked at my watch and saw that there was only thirty seconds left before they'd open. Are they that time conscious?
"You may come in!" the person yelled again. As I went in I looked a the room to see two guys. One was sleeping on the couch, his back facing me while the other was typing something in the computer.
"I'm here to remit the council fee's I've gathered from my class," I said placing the student schedule and envelopes on the table. He nodded and then started counting the money.
"Twenty-one students already paid, your class is pretty quick. We just announced the fee yesterday at the orientation, you are one good representative," he complimented.
"I'm not the representative but my roommate is. She asked me for a favor since she's too hangover to come," I explained. I sat on the chair as I wait for the receipts.
"Oh that explains it, that's also the reason why we're the only ones here. The rest are still puking their guts out. Even Ever is still dead asleep," he said pointing at the guy on the couch.
"I'm not dead asleep, Gear. I'm actually awake now." I looked back to see you in your disheveled state. Judging by the outfit you wore, you went straight from the party to the office.
"Oh, Tanisha. Wow you're still cute," you said out loud which made me confused. You seemed to have realised so you pretended to cough.
"Uhm hi, what are you doing here?" You asked as you were trying to fix your hair and shirt. You looked embarrassed, Ever. But honestly, I didn't care how you looked because my thoughts back then was filled with that ham and cheese sandwich I've been dying to eat after I get the receipts."The fee," I replied sounding as uninterested as I can.
If you didn't know Ever. I like playing pretend. Some people tell me that I like to deny, which is very true. But I will be honest now, I found you cute back then. Creepy but cute. I acted like you didn't have an effect on me and you believed it. You smiled at me, your eyes emitting warmth and familiarity, once again. Ever, I don't know why but your eyes seemed so familiar even though I haven't met you before.
"You're so early," you said as you stood up. Walking forward to where Gear was. I heard Gear chuckle and mutter something under his breath. You seemed to have heard it clearly so you smacked his head which made Gear cuss.
"A freshman is here Gear, be nice," you mocked which made Gear roll his eyes. Gear continued on jotting down names and his signature to the receipts as quickly as he could so that he could go back to what he was doing.
"This would be a lot quicker if you'd help me Treasurer."
"I do the budgets, the auditor does that. Hey Tanisha, would you want to have breakfast with me?" you said unexpectedly. I was speechless, I've never been asked out so casually especially in front of another Senior. I found myself feeling awkward but Ever, you have no awkward bone in your body. Which made me jealous of you, you are so calm and collected. Something I can never be.
Gear looked up to me waiting for my reply, it took me another minute to speak up. Not knowing how I can address what just happened. Maybe it wasn't a big deal for you Ever but it was to me.
"Gear, are you done with my receipts?" I asked not answering your question. Gear laughed and muttered, "How does your first rejection feel like, Ever?"
"It's not a rejection when she didn't say no, right Tanisha?" you replied. You scratched your head and then went back to the couch. Once again, I acted like you didn't exist, avoiding you and your question.
"But Tanisha here isn't replying either, take her silence as a yes right Tanisha?" Gear asked and I nodded. "Here are your receipts and thank you for finally giving Ever what he deserves, a rejection. Bless your soul."
I got my receipts and while I was on my way out you yelled, "I'm going to make you say yes one day."
