Good Time Flies Away!

"Will you keep that phone down Meera??" I said in quite irritating tone. We were sitting at our usual place behind college, studying for our exams and Meera was checking her phone almost after every 5 minutes.

"Ha one-minute Ashok, you concentrate on your studies.", said Meera.

" I am concentrating on my studies and I want you to do the same, Meera." I said her keeping the same tone giving an unusual stress on 'I am'.

Our conversation was interrupted by a phone call on her mobile. She didn't pick it up. Same story was repeated for 5 6 times.
"Pick it up for a change", I said to her.

" No, I need to finish this chapter ASAP."

"Oh, means when you were checking your phone every 5 minutes, you didn't want to finish it, right?" I said in a sarcastic tone.

" What do you want Ashok?"

" I just want to know if something is bothering you."

" No, nothing is bothering me, don't worry."

Her phone rang again. This time she picked it up. She stood up, walked away from me. This was something unusual. I started reading my notes. After few minutes I looked at her, she was still on the call. It seems like she was arguing with someone. I tried to hear what she's saying but she was talking in a too low voice. Suddenly she screamed! You want me to do that, I will do it. Happy? Now leave me alone." and she disconnected the call and looked at me. She found me looking at her. I quickly started reading my book. She came towards me, without talking a single word or even looking at me she packed her bag and started to leave. I tried to asked her but without saying anything, she left.

I had a strong urge to follow her, but I controlled myself. I told you guys before that I don't like to interfere in someone's life. I continued my study but I was not able to concentrate. Why she was acting like that? With whom she was talking? What she was gonna do? Was she in relationship? No, if she was I would have been known. (I believe I have told you this theory before.) I too packed my bags and headed towards my room.

After coming in my room, I tried to call her but her phone was busy. So, I dropped her a message.

' Meera, are you all right? What happened, you seemed upset. You can tell me, right? Don't take tension I am with you always. I will help you in every possible help. It's ok if you don't wanna tell me. I can understand. Bye. See you at the dinner. take care.'

I waited for her reply, but I didn't receive her call or message. I thought I will ask her at dinner. So, I went to the canteen and headed to our regular bench. I waited for her and I don't know when I dozed off. Around 9:30 someone wake me up. It was Shanta Kaku, " Here, Ashu Baba have this dinner." She had brought me a filled plate."

" Thanks, kaku but I am waiting for Meera."

" Meera? but she had her dinner."

" What? but when? I am sitting here from 8" I asked her surprisingly.

" Just few minutes before. I asked her about you, but it seems she was in the hurry. Then I saw you here."

"Oh. Ok Wait I will check on her." I stood up.

" No, finish your dinner first." She said in a authoritive voice.

I had my dinner and, in a hurry, I headed towards the "Girl's Wing". I don't know why I was going there as if I was gonna enter that building. I waited for almost 1 hour, hoping Meera would show up but it was a waste of time.

After this incident, I neither received message nor a single call from her. Once, I was heading towards our usual place for studies, I saw her sitting there. I called her; " Meera, where you have been??"
She just threw a glance at me, without saying a word stood up and started walking away. I believe I saw her wiping her tears.

I tried to contact her in every way but never succeeded. exams were approaching so I concentrated on my studies. I decided to talk to her after my exams. There was not a single day when I didn't think about her. I don't know why she was acting like this.

On exam day, I almost looked into every classroom to find her. but I didn't saw her. After the last paper I was sitting in my room. Battery came. I decided to ask him about her. He must be knowing about her. Oh God, how it didn't come in my mind earlier?"

" Battery, where is Meera?"

"What? you are asking me like I have kidnapped her." battery said in his mischievous tone.

" I am serious Battery."

" She left V.K.M.G."

"What?" I almost screamed. "But why?"

" I don't know. I thought you asked her."

" No, we haven't talked last 2 months"

" What?"

" Yeah, she stopped answering my phone calls and messages and now her number is switched off. When she left? Didn't she give the exam?"

" 1 week before exam."

" And you are telling this to me now??" I asked in an angry voice.

" Calm down, Ashok. I thought you proposed her and she became mad at you plus exams were approaching, it would have affected your studies."

" Leave it. Where is she now? in Pune?"

" I don't know. Even her friends also don't know. Even they were gonna ask you but I stopped them."

Tears rolled off on my cheek. I sat on my bed. Definitely she was in some problem but, why didn't she share it with me? She had always kept me away from her family life and from her past and I had accepted that but, she didn't even care to say me good bye? I was never gonna see her again and this thought weakened me even more. Battery was trying to comfort me but, I kept on crying, lost the track of time.
