The last question for today, " Why should Hyatt International hire you?" I asked Linda, interviewee for the post of assistant manager. " I want to be part of the success team of this company, I want to contribute in the growth of the company." Perfect answer I thought. Unlike other candidates who wanted to prosper themselves rather than company. She was holding excellent educational record and her self - confidence was much more than what some fresh aspirants generally have. She was perfect for the job profile. Without showing much appreciation on my face I ended the interview formally.
Soon after she left I picked the receiver on the table and dialled the code which connected me to the telephone which was on the Milanda's desk, my secretary. "Anything needed sir?" Her usual soft voice on the phone. " Yes Milanda, please draft the appointment letter for Linda. I want her to join us as soon as possible." I replied.

Milanda: Consider it done sir.

Me: Is there anybody waiting for giving the interview?

Milanda: Yes sir, one lady named Meera. Should I tell her that we are full?

Me: No, please send her in. I want everybody to have a fair chance.

Milanda: Sure sir.

I kept the receiver down. After 2 or 3 minutes I heard the knock on the door. " Come in." The door opened and one a lady entered. I asked her to have a seat. It was nice to see an Indian face in New York especially in my office. Though our other offices were having plenty of Indians, this office was not that lucky. I started with usual questions. Her speaking style, her tone seemed familiar to me. I thought it must be because of my roots to India. As interview progressed I started finding her face familiar too. Out of curiosity I mined her resume from our system:
Name: Meera Sharma
Age: 27 years
Graduated From: V.K.M.G., India
Yes! It was her Meera, now I got the link. We had done management studies together. Then for higher studies I went to Stanford. She was the reason I started having big goals, big dreams. She used to be my motivation source.
I stared at her closely, there was no expression of acquittance on her face. Her face was not showing any trace of our deep relationship, why relationship there was no sign on her face that showed we used to be friends. I thought it is because of we were meeting almost after 8 to 10 years. Our mind starts comforting us and gives arguments in favour of what we want to believe, what we think it should be. Should I give her hint? Should I introduce myself to her? But why she is sitting with a blank face? She doesn't remember me? Or she doesn't want to? May be the first one. (I told you before about our mind) If this is so, then she didn't recognise me after reading my name? Or she did not read the name itself? But how it is possible that she doesn't know the name of the C.E.O. of the company where she is going to give interview. Many questions like this stormed into my mind.

Without giving much attention to them I said to her, " You are hired. Join us from tomorrow." "What? means you haven't asked me anything" she looked stunned. She was always like this. She never liked anyone doing favour on her. She always wanted to achieve something on her own. She had some kind of principles guiding her through her life. To be frank this was her quality that made me fall for her. "No need, I have gone through your resume. It's enough." Okay was the reply that I got. Without saying a word, she left the cabin.

I called Milanda again

Me: Hey milanada we are hiring her.

Milanda: What? I just finished typing appointment letter for Linda and we have just 1 post, right?

Me: Just get it done Milanda.

and I hanged the phone. I stretched my arms, removed my blazer, pushed myself in the chair. Suddenly I felt like exhausted. I started staring out of the window. It was the quite afternoon at the Madison square. It made me feel more and more depressing. I got up from the chair, took my lappy bag and left the cabin. " Cancel my all appointments Milanda, we are done for today. I am taking half day" "Everything all right?" Milanda replied. "NO, I am just not feeling well, see you tomorrow. Have a nice day." "Same to you, Sir." I left the office..
