❝ everybody wants to rule the world ❞ | CH. TWO
---louis davies was always a peculiar kid. No one really liked to be friends with him, mostly because of his descent. His mother was a squib of the Rowle family, therefore resulting to her being disowned because her lack of magical abilities. She married a muggleborn wizard, Jonathan Davies, who soon became his father. Louis was never keen on moving in America after living a whole ten years in Liverpool. He was labelled the odd one out in a group of wizards and witches his age, due to his mother and father, so he always kept to himself. Until he met Asteria. It was a gloomy morning, one of the rarest in the country, he was sitting by one of the benches near his house reading a book his father gave him when a girl approached him. The two hit off in an instant. The both of them sharing common interests about the other.
One day he asked her, "why do you have so many scars?"
The girl looked at him with her big wide eyes, "my soulmate." She asnwered simply.
Louis only tilted his head, he knew about soulmates of course. But he didn't know one of the things that connected them would be as something horrible as scars. He looked down to his hand on the tattoo engraved on his skin; you look lonely.
He couldn't remember when he got it, but with it he had a small scar just next to it. His mum told him it was one of the connections, and he believed it was the first thing his soulmate would say to him after reading about them. He learned from his mother that that was how she met his father in one of the shops back in Liverpool. The story of how rainy it was one day and his mother just happen to walk in the shop he was working on. His father was said to be colour blind throughout his life, until his eyes fell on his mum and suddenly the colours lit up the shop. He approached her and said the first thing he thought of; 'Are you real?' His laughed at that before realising what he said. Ever since then, Louis had been hell bent to find who his soulmate was.
"It was kind of weird," Asteria said, cutting the boy's thoughts, "He was just standing there."
She was telling him about her dream the night before, of how she saw her soulmate and how she was planning on trying to reach out to him again.
Louis turned his head down, back to the tattoo. His mind whirring inside his skull.
Looking back, a memory resurfaced in his brain. It was of a girl, the same girl he was talking to. Her curls were bouncing up and down with every step as she slid next to him. Her eyes looking over his hand to the book he was reading.
"You look lonely."
---asteria looked around her surroundings. The walls were adorned with red and gold, along with a brown door in front of her. Curious, she carefully let her palm engulf the knob, turning it slowly before pushing it open.
She was met with a mirror. Looking at herself, she was wearing a black mask along with a white Victorian-style dress. Her dark brown locks were curled up and half of them were pinned up in a small bun.
She turned to her right to see nothing but a wall. Laughter filled up the air and she turned to her left to see two girls wearing masks and dresses like her. Asteria walked around them, moving towards the door. She turned the knob and walked in, seeing what looks like a ball of some sort. A masquerade.
Furrowing her eyebrows, she began walking around, looking at the people dancing all over the room. She walked in the middle of the room, still a bit skeptic of the whole scenario.
Suddenly, a hand reached for hers, pulling her into a dance. She looked up to the man to see a pair of blue eyes looking back at her. As she could see it, he was pretty tall. Taller than her that's for sure. He had brown hair, that was slicked back neatly on his head. But that wasn't the thing that enticed her, it was a familiar long scar just below his jaw. Her hand involuntarily went to her jaw, feeling the same scar she always had. Her eyes widened with acknowledgement.
"W-who are you?" She asked.
"Well hello to you too," the man teased, making Asteria narrow her eyes at him.
"Hello," she said, "what's your name?"
The stranger spun her around before dipping her down, his arm firmly wrapped on her back. A smirk on his lips.
"If I tell you then I'm afraid I have to kill you," he said, pulling her up once again. The both of them beginning to do the waltz.
Asteria scoffed, moving away from him with her hand holding onto his before spinning closer to him, his hand then wrapping back around her waist. "I'd like to see you try."
The man chuckled, dancing with her once again before. That was until the tune of the music changed, he let go of Asteria's waist. He kissed the back of her hand, his eyes looking up to meet hers before standing up and walking away.
Asteria snapped out of her daze as she began pushing past people, shoving through the crowds as she tried looking for his familiar brown hair. Only to see him nowhere, as if he just vanished from thin air.
