Papyrus woke up bright and early thanks to a phone call from Frisk, his human friend. "Papy! Come to Waterfall and wait behind the blue Ghost House. We're throwing a surprise party for Napstablook!" they said. Papyrus smiled. "Alright, human, me and Sans will be there soon!" he said before hanging up. He got ready for the day before going into Sans' room. He was, as usual, sleeping on a bare mattress. Fuckin' lazybones, too lazy to make his own goddamn bed.

"Sans! Get up, you lazybones! Frisk wants to meet us in Waterfall!" he shouted. Sans stirred a bit. "Just 5 more hours..." he murmered. "Wh...!" Papyrus picked him up and shook him awake. "Saaaaans! Get up already!" he exclaimed. "Alright, alright, fine, I'm up!" Sans replied dizzily. Papyrus smiled and excitedly tugged him downstairs and out the door, seeing how tired he was, but he seemed to wake up by the time they got to Waterfall.

Frisk was holding a gift box and was sitting on the cold ground. They looked up and waved. "Hi guys!" they whispered to the skelebros as they ducked behind the house next to them. "Hey kiddo, why'd you wake us up so early?" Sans asked. Frisk cocked their head. "You didn't tell him, Papyrus?" they asked. Papyrus facepalmed.

"Ah, shoot! I forgot to. Well, since it's Napstablook's birthday today, Frisk called me and said that we were throwing a surprise party," he clarified. Sans smiled. "You're a good pal to this ghost, Frisk," he said, ruffling their hair. Frisk giggled. Monster Kid, one of Frisk's best friends, peeked around the house. "Yo, there's Napstablook! Everyone be quiet!" he whispered.

Papyrus poked his head around the corner. Napstablook was indeed arriving, and when he went into his house, there was a loud "SURPRISE!!!" "That's our cue!" Frisk whisper-yelled before running around the corner and into the house. Papyrus, Sans and Monster Kid followed.

"Wh-what? What's this? A party? For me...?" Napstablook asked. Mettaton hugged his cousin. "Of course, Blooky! It's your birthday, after all!" he said. Blooky hugged back with his tiny arms, and turned to see the skelebros, Monster Kid and Frisk coming in. "Yo, dude! Happy birthday!" Monster Kid called. He was holding a card in his mouth.

"I didn't know what to get you, so I just got you some cash and a nice card!" Blooky smiled. "Thanks, Monster Kid, I appreciate it!" Frisk held up their gift box, and Blooky opened it. "Your old headphones were looking pretty worn, so I got you a nice new pair!" they chirped. Blooky tried he headphones on. "Comfortable and fitting. Thanks, Frisk!" he said.

Papyrus and Sans had bought their gifts on the way, and had wrapped them together. "It's a bit chilly in Waterfall, since it's so close to Snowdin, so we got you a cozy scarf and hat in case the breeze gets too cold," Sans said. "Happy birthday, bud." Napstablook put the scarf and hat on.

"I love the colour, and I feel warmer already. Thanks guys, these are neat!" Muffet walked in, holding pitchers of fruit punch and a birthday cake. "Happy birthday! I baked this for you. Ahuhuhu~"

Blooky smiled and tried not to cry. "I didn't know you guys would do this for me... thank you so much..." he said to his friends. Mettaton smiled and hugged his cousin. Everyone else smiled too — Mettaton was a great cousin. After a short group hug, the party began.

It lasted for a few hours and was mostly held outside, due to Napstablook's house not being very big. Lots of Waterfall residents came bearing gifts, and even monsters from other parts of the Underground. Even Asgore showed up to wish the ghost a happy birthday, which really made the ghost's adorable, normally sad face light up with cheer.

Papyrus mainly stayed by himself, not doing much except chat with a few people and have a bit of food, which worried Sans enough to go over and check up on him. "Bro?" he asked. Papyrus looked up from his food plate. "Oh! What is it, Sans?" he replied, sounding cheerful as ever. That didn't dull his older brother's worry. "Why aren't you talking with everyone? You're one of the most extroverted people I know, it's not like you to just stay in one place like this. Are you sure everything is alright?"

Papyrus nodded. "Of course, brother! Everything is fine. After all, if something was wrong, you'd probably know it before I did, wouldn't you? You always say you know me better than I know myself." Sans laughed. "Yeah, I guess you're right. If anything is going on, tell me, okay?" Papyrus smiled. "I will, Sans, I will," he said.

Sans decided to sit with him for a bit, and the two made casual conversation until it was time for cake. "Don't worry, I put no spiders in it. Ahuhuhuhu~" Muffet giggled. Napstablook chuckled a bit. The cake was delicious, and after that everyone hung out for about an hour before they all went home.

While trudging through the snow leading back to their home, Papyrus' thoughts started to wander, unintentionally putting his hands in the pockets of his red winter coat like his brother. Lately, things had seemed... almost pale, and cold. Literally. His coloured vision faded day by day, turning things into almost pastels. Pretty, yes, quite a sight to behold, but the skeleton knew more than anyone in the world what a bad sign that was. For both his health, and for those around him. He was starting to contemplate how to hide the fading colours from Sans as he opened the door, letting the shorter skeleton pass through with a gentle smile before entering the house himself and closing the door behind him.
