Hey if u wanna be really sad while reading this click the link above :)
"Hey Danny, how you feeling?" Kyle asks disturbing his peaceful sleep. If he's going to be honest he feels like complete shit, but he would never let Kyle know that.
"I have something planned for today, but I can cancel if you're. It feeling up to it." Dan slowly rolled over in the bed, sitting up.
"That sounds amazing." He grinned, carefully sitting down in the wheelchair. Dan absolutely despised the thing, but he had to face the facts that his body is simply too weak. It was either wheelchair or hospice.
Him and Kyle get themselves ready in only a matter of minutes, the high of them taking time to sit down and eat a bowl of cereal.
Kyle can't contain his smile as he he watches Dan drink the left over milk from the bowl, milk trickling onto his shirt.
Once the two are done Kyle drives them out into the countryside. Music is playing softly in the car as Dan hums along, softly tapping along on the glovebox. His head feels like there's so much pressure he could explode at any moment. The world around him seems to be coated in a blanket of grey, even his brand new red vans seem to have a grey tint. In total he can tell its going to be soon, and the thought of that is absolutely petrifying.
"We're here." Kyle says, and jogs around the car to help Dan out of the car.
"You didn't!" Dan shouts, seeing the empty countryside is filled with hot air balloons.
Kyle can't hold back a smile a she wheels Dan to the balloon. This was the closest he could get to skydiving.
A man leads them through the instructions, and Kyle listens diligently luckily, because Dan can't get his attention off of Kyle.
Within an hour they're up in the air, floating over the countryside.
Dan can't stop looking over the edge of the bracket, admiring the beautiful countryside. He's never felt this before. It's a mixture of pure happiness, fear, and something else that he can't put his finger on.
"Kyle, this is so extra. I love you so much." Dan grins, watching his boyfriend's face light up.
"You said you wanted to go skydiving, but I thought this could substitute." He explains, taking a seat next to Dan.
Together the two men floated over the countryside, talking about a little bit of everything.
"Smile!" Kyle said quickly taking the picture before Dan could even register. He carefully shook the small Polaroid, the picture slowly showing.
Kyle doesn't know that it's the last one he'll be getting. That the goofy half smile, hair sticking straight up, happy man is wasting away before his very eyes. He can't tell that the tiny photo is the item responsible for his happiness in the upcoming months. Most importantly Kyle doesn't know that his small collection of pictures are going to act as an anchor. They're going to save him from himself several times.
---
It's late at night and the two men are laying together in bed. Kyle is softly snoring, but Dan is wide awake.
He can feel it coming. The pressure in his head has increased, and now he can barely keep his eyes open. His whole body is tired. Tired of fighting, and finally it's ready.
Dan pulls out the note he wrote from his pocket, and placed it on the nightstand underneath his glasses.
"Dan?" Kyle's voice is soft as he gently sits up.
"Go back to sleep love." Dan says quietly, planting a kiss on his forehead. He can't stand the thought of Kyle being awake.
And then he lays back down, resting his head on Kyle's chest. The soft rising and falling of it comfort him.
Dan is no longer scared. In fact, he's ready.
And so he closes his eyes, and feels as if he's being drifted into sleep. Except he knows he will never be waking up.
It starts at his feet, and he can no longer feel them. It travels up his body, until it reaches his head.
That's when he takes his last breath and closes his eyes.
