"Oh my god! Kyle look!" Dan tugged at Kyle's shirt, dragging him to the window. Outside snow was falling, covering the earth like a woolen blanket.
"Woah." Kyle said in amazement, watching as the snow fell to the ground.
"Let's go!" He grinned, dressing himself I warm clothes.
Dan had already dressed himself in his winter clothes, topping his tall hair with a fluffy beanie his grandmother had made.
The two quickly made their way to the park, snow falling all around them. They tried to see who could catch the most snow on their tongue. And obviously Dan won.
Once they reached the park, the two did everything they could in the snow. From snow angels to snowball fights, there was no stopping them.
"This reminds me of that one winter. Remember when the power was out for two days, and you and me got to miss school. Ah those were the days." Dan grinned, staring up at the white sky as more snow flakes landed in his body.
"Of course. We murdered Tom and Ralph. Ha remember they kept trash talking us, and then we absolutely crushed them in our snowball war. How could anyone forget?" They both laughed, memories if the past filling them with nostalgia.
They were always together. Both the Smiths and the Simmons were family friends, which made the boys' friendship even easier.
It wasn't until their freshman year of college did they become inseparable. Even then though they were still best friends. But after dan was diagnosed, they were once more inseparable.
You see it's awful but when you find out you have limited time. Suddenly time seems to gain more importance. Memories taken for granted are finally cherished because you know there's no more to come.
"Come here!" Dan yelled, causing Kyle to come racing towards him.
"What is it?" The boy asked with worry in his voice.
"Look at all the snow. Come on I know we're supposed to be old and mature but fuck that." Dan grinned, his smile ear to ear. It showed his wonky tooth that Kyle absolutely adored.
And then the two men built a snowman.
It was there layers tall and lopsided. But non the less it was absolutely perfect. The eyes were two frozen acorns, the mouth leaves, and the arms two empty beer bottles.
"Dan get in front of." Kyle said and pulled out his Polaroid, snapping a picture.
He quickly shook the picture, revealing the scene. Dan stood next to the lopsided snowman, hugging it like a fool. On his face was the biggest smile.
Everything seemed to be so perfect in that moment. In that moment they were just two men playing in the snow. But in a few weeks things would change.
Life would go downhill so fast. And within months it would only be Kyle, alone in the snow, looking back to the Polaroid, the snow falling all around him.
