Hey guys! Today, this is awesomesauce82, and I will be telling you a bit about beacons!
If you read bluewhisker's first nether chapter,he touched on how to get the main ingredient of a beacon, the nether star! If you haven't read that chapter, basically what you do is make the whither boss,(for more info on the whither boss, go to the chapter the nether dimension part 1). Anyways, once you've killed that nasty boss, you will have a nether star!
Now that you have a nether star,it's time to collect the other ingredients! You will need5 glass and 3 obsidian. Now put the obsidian at the bottom 3 slots on the crafting table, then put the nether star in the middle of these. Now,place the glass in the remaining slots. If you did this correctly, you should get a beacon!
Now it has two uses, the first is blasting a beam of light into the sky. Make sure that there is no blocks between the beacon and the sky, otherwise it won't work. This is very useful, for making landmarks easier to find, because you can see the beam for a long distance. No more losing your house after going far away!
Now this next part is a bit complicated. If you make a pyramid out of diamond, iron, gold,or emerald blocks, and put the beacon on top,it will give you special buffs, similar to potion effects. The smallest pyramid you can make, is 9 blocks, arranged in a 3 by 3 square. Now if you place the beacon on top, it will give you the effects if you in range.
Before you can get those awesome effects you need to feed the beacon. Basically give it a diamond, emerald, gold ingot,or iron ingot, you can do that by right clicking to get to the beacons UI.
Now once you have fed it the stuff click on one of the effects you want to add. After that, click the green check mark, and that power will be activated. If you want to activate a new effect, you must feed it another ingot, and go through this process again.
The bigger a pyramid is,the more powers you will have to chose from. The radius where the powers effect you also increases. Also if the pyramid is broken, you can replace the damaged blocks, and it will 'remember' what effects it had and it will re-activate.
Now,I will go over what effects you can get with a becon. You can get,
Speed,increased movement speed
Haste, increases mining speed
Resistance, makes you armor stronger
Jump boost, increases the height you can jump
And strength, increases melted damage
You can get strength from potions of strength,or speed from potions of swiftness,if you don't want to go through this long process. And you can get speed, and haste from enchantments.
Last thing,A level 4 pyramid can choose a secondary effect. This is either a variation of the primary effect,or regeneration.
