Alison stopped in front of Elsie's door

Alison stopped in front of Elsie's door. The tune of a mainstream pop melody travelled through the closed entrance – the confirmation of Elsie's presence.

She could hear Elsie shamelessly shouting out the lyrics through the door and on a regular day, Alison would've laughed at this ridiculousness.

But it wasn't a regular day and Ali couldn't laugh at the world's funniest jokes if she tried her best.

How does an owner of a broken heart find the courage to laugh and be happy again?

Sucking in a breath of courage, she prepared herself for the delivery of bad news. The door opened before she could even knock it.

"Oh hey, I thought I smelled you!" Elsie's grinning face greeted her. She was going to miss her and her everything, Alison was sure.

Elsie frowned upon registering the fact that Alison was carrying her bag in one hand and her cat in another. Unable to stop herself, she asked, "Where are you going?" before pulling Alison into her room and shutting the door behind her.

The deep frown on Elsie's face wasn't making telling her easier, but Alison thought that her only friend deserved more than a note saying she had left.

"I'm leaving," Alison said simply, putting the cat and her bag down for a proper goodbye.

"Yes, I can see that but why?"

Alison sighed and prayed in her heart that she had enough courage to tell her the whole story.

"Nick found a Luna."

"What? Nick found a replacement? But what about you? What's going to happen to you? I find this very hard to believe."

"The Luna asked me to leave."

"And Nick didn't do anything about it?"

"Actually he was in the shower when it happened. They had... finished and he was already in the bathroom showering when I came into the room," she replied weakly.

Alison could already feel the fresh batch of tears threatening to spill. She looked up towards the ceiling, thinking if she did that, the tears could possibly defy gravity.

"How do you know this is even true? Maybe it was just some fling and Nick being stupid, he lost his self control from the months of celibacy," Elsie reasoned.

"No, it wasn't just some fling and even if it was, it would still be unforgivable," she paused. "He marked her."

"Alison..." Elsie whispered with sympathy.

"You understand why I have to leave now right? I feel so stupid. Goddess I should've left months ago. If I did, this wouldn't have happened," Alison exclaimed deliriously.

Elsie reached towards Alison for a hug but she took a step back.

"No, please don't hug me. I'm going to cry if you hug me and I don't understand how I haven't run out of tears yet," she explained.
