While the rest of the pack was out for their daily run, Nick and Elliot were busy reading reports about the recent sightings of Aloysius. It had been confirmed that he had set up camp somewhere in this area, their area. The Alphas of all four packs did not like it one bit.

Having the danger so close to home irritated them. They felt threatened because Aloysius is a threat. He has slaughtered a total of five packs. Everyone knew he had killed them to avenge his mate, but why he is so invested in the killing? He would've gone on suicide missions if he had lost everything there was to live for. So why plan these missions down to the last detail and make sure most of his men survive?

What exactly is his endgame?

"When is the next council meeting?" Nick asked his Beta.

"Not sure, the other Alphas are still dealing with the patrol problem. It might take a while for them to set a date," Elliot answered.

"Okay, I think we need to find out what exactly Aloysius is planning."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Doesn't it bother you? That he's killing small packs, methodically. When we had visited the site, and questioned the witnesses, they had said that the rogues weren't just killing for fun. If they did, all of them would've been dead."

"So you're saying that he has an ultimate plan?"

"He could have one. It would explain why he plans his attacks and why he has been so meticulous with his plans, there has to be something that he's aiming at."

"Maybe, we should ask the council what they think of all of this. They might feel the way you do about Aloysius and the rogues."

Nick simply nodded and went back to reading the reports, frowning every once in a while. He could've fooled anyone but not Elliot. Elliot knew he was troubled and it wasn't because of the rogues.

Having been best friends since they were young, they could read each other like a book. One would always know what the other was feeling without asking. They had been the envy of many with their close friendship and trust. It wasn't easy, after all, to find someone who you could trust with your life.

And for Nick, trusting someone wasn't easy.

"You wanna talk about it?" Elliot asked, discreetly hinting at the mate 'problem'.

"I don't even know if there's anything to talk about," Nick answered as he continued to read the reports.

"There's a lot to talk about, you found your mate. That's a big thing," Elliot gushed, with a huge grin on his face. He was excited about the fact that his best friend had met his mate, that he would finally get the happiness he deserves, especially fter all he has gone through.

"It's not, you know I can't have her," Nick muttered. He didn't like saying it out loud, it pained him to talk about the one thing he knew he could never have.
