"I'm tired.", Jasmine who just arrived home looked more worn out than ever.

"Should I still ask?", Mavis just fixed some extra toast for Jasmine and handed her a plateful.

"Don't bother. She'll never grow old of these guys."

Mavis knew that she'd tell anyway so she just sat down beside her and started eating her share. Sure enough, Jasmine started her usual rant about her mother's dates.

It was the first weekend after class started. So far, except for Monday morning's incident, the rest of the week had been nothing but ordinary. She was more than happy to breathe the usual air she's more accustomed with than the strangely uncomfortable breeze that dominated that Psychology class. People there seriously need to work with their attitude.

After about almost half an hour, Jasmine was still in the middle of yet another unpleasant experience with one of her mother's poor choice of husband candidates. Mavis was only able to retain a few random words though: hobbit, nosy, missing tooth, annoying. Even though it was always the same story for the both of them, with only the name of the main character being changed, still, Jasmine never got tired of using the same negative adjectives to describe them repeatedly. If one had not known her, one will probably think she was only describing the same person.

"She's always saying that it's for my sake. But do I really look like I still care if I have a father or not?", Jasmine, after a long time finished her story with a serious tone. Right then, Mavis knew she wasn't fine. After all, Jasmine just like any other 20 year old woman, could still sometimes feel a little emotional. Mavis was just waiting for her to snap.

"How about you think of it this way. Maybe your mom only tells you that just so you can approve of her choices. We'll never know but maybe, she needs a man in her life...more than you do.", and with that, Mavis somehow knew what would happen next.

"This toast taste awful. Did you put some weird stuff in here again?"

Jasmine would overtly change the topic.

Mavis just smiled and went with it. A respond she knew would be a lot more her pace. After all, she was never in the position to push her too much. The fact that she has this messy family was already enough burden to drive her to the edge of her sanity.

"Maybe too much alcohol already numbed your sense of taste Jazzy. We both know I make the best toast in town. Ha-ha.", and they just laughed like they were not in the brink of tears a few seconds back.

Monday came by in a blink of an eye. Once again, Mavis is seated on that same seat that now felt more uncomfortable than before. She knew that there really is no point in anticipating for anything bad to happen. She could only hope that everyone already moved on.

A few minutes later, Raleigh arrived. He sat down on the same spot where he was last meeting. Mavis looked at him but he acted as if nobody's there. He was back to that stone cold expression that he normally wears. She was glad. But somehow felt a little uneasy.

Prof. Morin arrived, and again, with a cheerful face.

"Good morning. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend."

He placed some of the materials he was carrying on top of his desk and looked around.

"I see that we're missing a few faces today. That is just unfortunate.", he said while looking at an empty seat by the front row. It was Jeremy's.

"But no mind, because today we'll have more things to talk about. Last time, you let me into the things you value that no one can ever take away from you...something that you think greatly affects who you are, and what you do right now. I was glad to have heard some very interesting answers. That just proves that somehow, you know the things that matter to you. There could be thousands of them: dreams, memories, love perhaps, to name a few."
