"I'm glad she's okay now.", said Jasmine's mom as she sat by the chair right next to the bed where Mavis was peacefully sleeping. Zach was standing close to her while Raleigh and Jeremy stood on opposite sides of the room as if they were the same poles of a magnet...can never stay near each other. After looking at both their messed up faces, Zach knew exactly what happened the time he was away. But he rather not pile on the situation. More than anything else, he knew that he had to settle the mess he created for himself first even though guilt feelings kept on rising from his bloodstream like air bubbles on a soda. He knew he had been the root cause of everybody's inconvenience.

"Aren't we going to call her parents? I will do the explaining if I have to. It's my fault. I should take responsibility for it.", said Zach looking determined.

"That would have been the most rational thing to do Mr. Thomas. But I suggest we wait for Mavis' to wake up first before we do that.", said Jasmine's mom.

"I don't understand. Something like this...it's a serio...",Zach tried to insist on the idea but was interrupted by Jasmine's mom.

"Mavis...never liked the idea of worrying others over her, especially her parents...and my daughter Jasmine. She prefers to be the one who does the worrying.", she explained. "Trust me...if you really want to help out, you'd do what I say."

"Will she be...in trouble...her parents...are they...",asked Zach hesitantly.

"Oh no...her parents are good people! I am more than certain that they'll rush over here the second they hear about what happened. And that's what Mavis is trying to avert. Also, her parents are always out of the country for work. She learned to become independent through the years. Something that I had always been very thankful for. If not for her...I wouldn't know how to handle my own daughter. She's more of a mother to my Jasmine than I'd ever be.", she said as she wiped discreet tears from her eyes. That silenced everyone else in the room.

"Oh my! I'm blabbering. I'm so sorry! What am I...", she added but she was cut off when she felt someone holding her hand.

"You're awake! Thank God...how are you feeling?", she said as she stood up leaning closer to Mavis, brushing of her hair. Zac, Raleigh and Jeremy looked over at their direction but knew that it's not their place to butt in.

"I'm alright Aunty...it's nothing...serious really. These guys... just...overreacted. And...thank you.", said Mavis in a weak tone as if struggling to get the words out of her mouth. "...for not telling my parents and Jasmine."

Jasmine's mom just smiled and nodded. "I at least know that side of you quite well. Plus...I'm also a little scared of Jasmine. She'd probably kill me of she figures out something like this happened to you while you're with me.", she added while pretending to shiver putting a smile on Mavis' face. "So I guess you won't be coming home tonight...you need to rest and regain your energy. You lost quite a lot of blood. And don't worry about Jasmine. I already told her that you'll be staying with me. That can silence her for now...I hope."

"Thanks, Aunt. You should get going, too...the party needs you.", said Mavis trying to sound more vivid this time.

"Alright, then. It's a relief to know that you're okay. I also brought you some clothes you can change into.", said Jasmine's mom as she raised a paper bag from the floor, putting it over the table beside them. Then she leaned over and gave Mavis a peck on the forehead.

"Ahm...Ms. Dawson...I really can't thank you enough...", said Zach, embarrassed and hesitant.

"Oh please...call me Cynthia. I'm just glad you have these handsome men to look over you.", she said in an attempt to lighten the mood by teasing her. Mavis looked away, pretending not to have heard that. Zac, Raleigh and Jeremy on the other hand all looked uneasy and suddenly getting self-conscious over one harmless comment. "But a little bit of advice boys, you better step up you're game some more if you want to impress Mavis...she's quite the catch..I'm telling you.", she added as if she's enjoying the flustered look on their young faces.
