"Do I need to go there on time?"

"He pisses me off so why would I!"

"Don't make him wait my ass!"

Mavis kept pacing back and forth in her room, muttering random words, talking to herself. This might be the first time in a very long time that she became this anxious again about something...not since six years ago, she thought. She lied down on her bed and just stared at the ceiling letting her thoughts wonder.

"It's been a while..."

KRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING! KRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!

15-year old Mavis woke up and jumped out of bed towards the bathroom. First day of senior high school, she was nervous and excited. She'll be seeing Jasmine again after the summer break. High school would surely be a lot of fun that they both can share together. She's glad that Jasmine still chose to go to the same school even after what happened to her parents. She must have been devastated, she thought.

"But no worries Jazzy! I'll cheer you up! 1..2..3...brrrrrrrrr!", and she turned open the cold shower. She got used to counting first before using the shower in anticipation of the cold water that always make her jump like a jolly little bunny. She never bothered to have her father fix the water heater because the coldness could wake her sleepy head up...just the kind of push she needed to start her day right.

After only about 30 minutes, she went out of her room in her new pair of uniforms and newly polished shoes. She was ready. She ran downstairs and found her mother in the kitchen just finished frying the last pieces of sausages. She sliced them in half and placed them on top of caramel colored toast that smelled like butter and cinnamon.

"Excited for school?", Mavis always thought of her mom as a morning angel who shines brighter than the sun. But make no mistake, the angelic aura couldn't last an entire day. Her mom works in the Human Resources Department of a huge multinational company. She was always very busy up to the last second of the day so she normally just spends the night early in bed. Her father on the other hand works in the legal department of the same company working directly under the 'big bosses'. He's always outside the country to attend to different business deals together with the top executives of the company. They are both very good folks but because of their busy schedules, Mavis hardly get to have quality times with them except for the very few vacation trips they usually had when she was still very young.

But she was never sad and alone...because she has Jasmine by her side. They were neighbors back from the very beginning so they got very close as years gone by. Jasmine lives a luxurious lifestyle. Her mother works as an editor of a noted fashion magazine while her father is a producer of various television shows and movies. Jasmine was even casted for a kid's apparel commercial when she was just 6 years old. Despite the very interesting and somewhat dream-like family background, Jasmine had always been exposed to her parent's never ending arguments. Maybe because they both worked in the entertainment industry, their lives can get easily entangled with different personalities. And after 12 years of marriage (which Jasmine normally refers to now as 'tolerance'), they both ended it with a divorce.

Mavis couldn't really tell how Jasmine felt about that. It only happened during the summer break. Jasmine went out of the country for a vacation when she told her that her parents are no longer together. She did not really keep in touch after that. That is why Mavis is very much anticipating the start of the school year to rendezvous with her best friend again.
