A/N: So in this chapter we have sweet romance and then a rapid progression into an epic plot twist! Lol enjoy;)
I step to his side, and run the back of my hand over his cheek. He seems so peaceful. But I know he's trapped inside his own mind, just like I was. I turn back briefly to look at Em, dressed in her nurse's outfit. It looks good on her. My eyes flit to Jordan, who smiles slightly and steps outside, without a word. He must know I want to talk to Emily. "How are you doing?" she asks, stepping up beside me quietly. I shrug. "Alright, I guess. It's hard. But I have Jordan." I say, trailing off. He's my base for everything. If he wasn't here, I would be floundering, utterly confused and lost. Sounds ridiculous, but it's true. "He came every single day you know." She says, smiling slightly. I raise an eyebrow. "You should have seen the way he looked at you. How he always left with a smile on his face." I grin, looking down. "You liked having him around too. Your heart rate and brain waves always spiked when he visited. One day, they jumped enough that you woke up." She continues, smiling. "It was sort of amazing to watch." I glance back up at her briefly. "Do you think he likes me?" I'm almost surprised by how much that sounds like a middle-schooler. But it's the only phrase for the situation. She tilts her head slightly "I think he's in love with you." I blink "Really?" She nods "Ask anyone here. It was like you two were married or something. Every time he walked in that room his face just lit up. It's amazing that two people could fall in love without speaking once." She says, almost wistfully, eyes trained on Percy. I glance back at the door, now wanting to see him again. To make sure that all of this is real. "We aren't dating." I mumble, still convinced it's probably not going to happen. "Yet." She finishes for me. I roll my eyes. She sighs "Have you seen the way he looks at you? It's only a matter of time." I take a deep breath. "I hope so." She smirks "You know it's kinda like a TV show for everyone here. As soon as you walked in today the gossip started flying. You are really, unbearably cute together." I blush deeply "We aren't together." I repeat. She shakes her head, laughing "Ok. For now." I sigh. I should know better than to argue with her. There is a moment of silence, and my eyes drift back to Percy. "Do you think he'll wake up?" She shrugs "Well, actually his brain activity is high right now. Probably because of you. I think it'll be a while. Eventually, sure. And genetically, if you were able to wake up, his chances are great as well." I smile "Something to look forward to."

"That's great Ali. You're doing awesome." The instructor says as I push a medicine ball over my head slowly. My arms burn at the simple task. I blow out air slowly, arms trembling as I hold the weight. I know I have no choice but to do it. Still, I hate exercise. Like a lot. "3,2,1...Drop it!" he says, and I do, throwing it down on the ground in front of me. It hits the ground with a thud, leaving me panting and sweating. My eyes flit to the name tag he wears. Joey Stout. "That was great Ali. I think that's enough for today. Awesome job." He says. In my opinion, the use of 'awesome' and 'great' is overwhelming. He reminds me of a pep rally on steroids. And it's annoying as heck. Way too much inspiration.
I wander back to Jordan, who sits watching in a waiting room chair. "That. Was. Horrible." I say, flopping down beside him, absolutely exhausted. I've always hated working out, and having no muscle certainly doesn't make it any easier. Regardless if it's making me stronger. He chuckles "Great job! Keep up the awesome work!" he mimic's Joey's animated voice. I laugh, brushing my hair out of my face. And then I am sent rocketing to my feet when an alarm blares through the hospital, sending my heart racing.
A fire alarm sounds loudly and shrilly through the room, making me panic just with the sound. It's pushed on you from the day you are born- alarms are bad. They mean bad things are happening. You should be afraid. I can feel the adrenaline already pumping through my veins as the loudspeaker comes on. "This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill." Jordan jumps to his feet beside me, eyes wide. "Please stay calm. Begin evacuation immediately. Leave all patients. I repeat, leave all patients." I hear people scream from the hallways, people running, and shouting. The alarm continues to blare in my ears, resulting in an insistent ringing. My eyes widen in horror as I comprehend what the announcement means. They are abandoning the patients. They are leaving my brother to die. My eyes snap to Jordan, who grabs my hand "We have to go Ali!" he yells over the alarm. But I am frozen in place. My brother is laying helpless two floors up. "Jordan, my brother! I can't leave him!" I hear more screams, and crying from the halls. Everyone has left the room by now. I don't know why they still make so much noise. We're supposed to stay calm, right? Jordan's eyes plead with me. "Come on, Ali! We'll die if we stay." I shake my head "I'm not leaving him! I have to try!" His eyes flit around for a moment, thinking. He grips my hand tighter. "I'll get him Ali. But you have to promise me you'll get out. I'll save him. Please Ali."
