"The battle will occur tomorrow morning," Red explained, standing in front of the army before him.
I stood between Kyle and a unicorn everyone called Isabel. She had arrived last night, her lateness due to crossing the Fiery Forest. She explained how the amount of Trolls in the area was slowing her down.
Ivan suddenly asked, "will the Centaurs be using spears?"
Red answered calmly, "we'll use magic and our spears, yes."
I questioned, "what will everyone else be using?"
Red replied coolly, "Lynn, you will be using your bow and arrow, as well as the magic we have taught you. Calvin and Nicole will use their crossbows; Kyle shall use his sword; Stella and Giselle will stay inside our base and do their jobs, crafting and healing; All Centaurs will use spears; Hope, Char, Fauna, Flora, and Isabel will use their magic powers; Midnight, you will use your wrestling abilities; Raven will breath fire and use other Dragon Magic; and everyone will be using magic."
Fauna asked, "um, what about Flora and me?" The two mermaids nodded as they waited for Red to respond. "Will we have to fight in these water bubbles?"
Red shook his head side to side quickly. "You two Mermaids will take a potion made by Giselle that gives you legs until you drink the reverse potion, which Giselle has locked up so the enemy cannot take it. If you have the legs for over a year, they will become permanent. But, not to worry, the battle will be over in no time!"
Flora looked at the forest floor. Fauna looked at her twin sympathetically.
Kyle explained, "Flora's always been the emotional one. I don't know what it is now, but it must be bad!" he said sarcastically, laughing.
I faked a smile and looked over to Flora, who sat inside her little water bubble, hugging her blue tail.
I heard Fauna whisper to Isabel, "she always feels like no one understands her." She then swam back over to her sister, patting her shoulder in comfort.
Everyone got back to training, where we practiced our combat skills. I spent the whole night firing at wooden figures Hope created with her magic. I hit every single one! I had gotten very good at shooting, since I practiced a lot.
That night, I tossed and turned in the cave. Whenever I closed my eyes, I felt so awake. And when my eyes were open, I felt stressed and nervous.
Am I going to die? I wondered, furrowing my eyebrows. No, Daniel wanted me to get my memory back. But when will that happen? Before the battle? After? During? What if he captures me?! What if he tortures me?! I curled up into a little ball and whimpered.
Suddenly, a voice called from behind.
"Can't sleep?"
I whipped around. Calvin stood against the cave wall, his arms crossed.
I shook my head.
Calvin chuckled. "Yeah, neither can I."
I smiled. He stepped forward and said, "I was going to take a walk outside. Wanna come?"
I nodded and walked outside with him. We turned to the right and continued our trek, slowly strolling through the woods.
We continued until we came to the lake where the red haired girl and I met, who's name was apparently Carrie.
Calvin stopped by the lake, staring into the cold water. It was now early November. And, if it was past midnight, it would be November the fifth, the day of the battle. After staring into the water for a minute or so, I realized it had some thin ice chips floating on the surface.
"I waited too long," Calvin muttered, sitting on a rock by the waterfall.
I sat next to him and raised my eyebrows very slightly. "What?"
He continued quietly, "what am I going to do now? Ask in the middle of a freaking battle?!"
I looked over at him. His head was tilted down, looking at the flow of the water. I looked to where his gaze was set at, expecting to see something. But all I saw was ice water.
"Ask what?"
He looked towards me and I saw the fear in his expression.
"I'm going to ask Nicole to marry me."
I gasped silently. "Wait, really?" I smiled at him, imagining him being with Nicole.
He nodded. "But I've waited too long and now what am I going to do?!"
I grinned mischievously. "I have an idea."
We stayed at the waterfall discussing the proposal for what felt like hours. By the time we were back at the cave, I felt so tired.
Before I fell asleep, I glanced at Nicole's necklace. 3:30 am.
I drifted off easily, dreaming about the battle that was soon to come...
