Eventually, I had staggered back to the cave and fell asleep, staring at the vial containing my memory until my eyes closed.

In the morning, I told Kyle about what had happened last night. After all, he was the only person here I could really trust.

"So... freaky chick plants these things in your head to... warn you?" he asked, raising an eyebrow with a grin on his face.

I laughed a little. Kyle was the only person I knew who could make a joke about something so serious and scary. "No, she did it to mess with me; torture me."

Kyle snickered to himself again. "I was just kidding."

I smiled back. "I know."

Calvin walked in. I looked away from Kyle towards him and Kyle did the same, though his expression was strange.

"Lynn, you need to go to training! And Kyle, you gotta go with Red and practice fencing!"

Kyle beamed at Calvin, maybe a little too much. Calvin wasn't looking, thought. He was already heading out towards Nicole, who had her crossbow out. Calvin got out his and they began to shoot at magical targets made of fog, such as Werewolves or Clowns.

I scoffed at Kyle. "Do you..."

He punched my shoulder and we burst out into fits of laughter until I remembered I hadn't gotten any training yet.

When lunchtime came, I sat next to Kyle and Hope, who was balancing blackberries on her nose again. I shook my head and bit into my apple, which I decided to eat first.

Red announced abruptly, "remember, guys. The battle will take place in six days."

Hope dropped her blackberry.

Nicole looked nervous.

Ivan choked on his food.

Calvin chuckled awkwardly.

Midnight gulped.

And I felt more nervous than I was when I first heard about the battle.

Kyle broke the silence by giving a small pep talk that ended with a joke. Everyone laughed, even Nicole.

Midnight, who had quickly finished eating first, said, "well, I'm going to practice tackling and fighting. See you guys at dinner!"

Calvin and Nicole were second to leave back to the forest.

When I was finished, and I was a slow eater, everyone else was gone except for Ivan and Landon, and both were finishing dessert. I smiled at them as I got off and followed Den, who had been waiting for five minutes or so.

He walked beside me into the woods, chatting about the battle plan. I wasn't listening. All I could think about was what Red had said.

The battle will take place in six days.

No, I thought to myself. It's too soon! I sighed and looked up at Den, who was probably about eight feet tall, because of his horse body. He towered over me, since I was only 5 and a half feet tall, which was average for an Elf my age.

How old was I? I couldn't remember. 15? 16? 17? I shook my head and looked toward Den, who was beginning to slow down.

"We'll train here," he said, stopping in his tracks. I faced him as he handed me my bow and the quiver full of arrows. "Now, I understand that you've shot an arrow before?"

I nodded.

He continued. "You don't remember, but you used to use a sword. Kyle had taught you. But we think that you'd be better at the bow and arrow."
