There he was the boy that ruined everything. It had now been over one year since he rejected her. Why was Avery still hung up over him? She needed to move on with her life, but every time she thought that she was over him, he would do something so kind and nice that she would fall for him all over again. Avery didn't want deal with this today. After everything going on with her mom and finding out about her Dad she didn't have time to deal with a stupid boy.
Avery's ultimate coach wasn't there that day because he was traveling with the senior team for a tournament. Avery thought that it was just a practice today, but it turned out that they had a game. They hardly had any players, so they had to combine teams with B team. Avery ended up playing really well that game. It was a good distraction from everything going on at home. She was able to shut off her mind and focus only on the game. All of her anger towards her mom disappeared for one hour. Avery was somewhat happy for once.
At the end of the game Avery was packing up her stuff when she heard someone say her name, "You played really well today," there he was doing all over again. Avery looked into Dustin's bright, light blue eyes and she felt her insides implode. "Thanks," she managed to stumble out. She then quickly rushed into the parking lot to look for her mom's car.
On the way back home Avery's mom didn't say a word to her. This at least gave Avery some time to think. She thought about how her day went and most importantly Dustin. Avery remembered Dustin saying that he was gonna be away for a discovery trip for the next 3 weeks for the big end of year trip. That meant that this was the last time she would see him. Since the next week, Avery was going away, then after that, the Ultimate season was over. Dustin had gone on many trips this year because he was part of the discovery program at his school. Every few weeks he would go on an outdoor trip for a few days. Avery only knew this because she had a streak with him on snapchat, and every time he was away some girl would take over his streaks.
"Avery!" Her mom yelled at her pulling her back into reality. "What?" Avery snapped. "You need to get changed," Avery's mom reminded her. Avery was going to her friends birthday party. She was a little bit nervous because she knew that she was going to be the only one from her friend group at the dinner. Everyone in Avery's grade at school was "friends", but it was weird and awkward to hang out with someone outside of her little friend group. It wasn't like her school was very cliquish, they all just had their own group, and no one really mixed with other groups. Their grade was actually considered one of the best grades in the school. They had the least amount of Drama and no one ever got into any trouble. They all cared about their school work and grades.
Avery changed into her strapless black dress. Her friend told her that it was formal to semi-formal, so it gave Avery a chance to wear something fancy. She alway liked to dress up. She always dreamed about wearing huge princess' dresses. Avery's mom had a closet filled with ball gowns and when Avery was younger she used to always make her mom pull them out of the closet so that she could look at them. It was sometimes hard for Avery to believe that her mom used to be a famous actor. Whenever Avery asked her mom about her past glamorous life, her mom would never tell her much. She always told Avery that it wasn't as amazing as she thought.
When Avery got to the restaurant everyone was dressed up so nice. They all looked so pretty. Avery wished that she could look like that. Avery could tell that the other girls were wondering why Avery was there. She was close to Madeleine, but she never hung out with her outside of school or even at school. They only talked during classes because they had many together. They used to be closer before, but Madeleine decided that she wanted to hang out with a different friend group a few years ago.
The party went ok. Madeleine tried her best to include Avery in conversation, but it still was odd. Avery felt out of place. The dinner was amazing, but Avery couldn't wait to get home. She was exhausted from practice and just needed to sleep. However, she didn't want to be alone with her mom. She knew that her mom was going to try and change her mind about meeting her father, but Avery had already made her mind up. She wanted to meet her father and she was going to do whatever it took to find Colin.
I am finally on summer vacation, so hopefully, I will be able to write more. I hope you liked the chapter. Please vote and comment your thoughts!
