Jennifer paced back and forth in front of her bedroom mirror. She had already put on 5 different dresses and all of them looked bad. She was wearing a red dress now it was kinda long and had no sleeves. It sorta looked like the dress she had worn to comic con all those years ago. Was it to fancy? The dinner was just at her house. She was about to take the dress off when the oven timer rang. She quickly ran to oven and check on her casserole. It was almost ready, but she needed to put on another layer of cheese first. "Wow, mom you look so pretty," Avery said entering the kitchen. "Thanks, Honey," Jennifer said half-heartedly. She was too stressed out about the dinner. "I didn't know that this was a formal dinner," Avery said. Jennifer didn't answer. "Should I change?" Avery asked. Jennifer was still sprinkling cheese on the casserole. "Mom!" Avery said louder. "Sorry, what did you say?" Jennifer said looking at her daughter. "Should I change into something nice?" Avery asked. "Sure, whatever you want," Jennifer said not really paying attention.
Avery went into her room to look for something to wear. Her mom seemed so distracted. Avery could tell that her mom was nervous. Avery walked into her closet and looked at her limited collection of dresses. She had already worn all of those dresses before. Aunt Ginny and Uncle Josh had already seen her wear them too. She wanted to wear something different and new. She decided to look through her mom's closet. They were around the same size and Avery always loved to wear her mom's clothes. She looked through her mom's dresses. She knew all of them by heart because she looked at them in awe all the time. Some of the dresses were out of place Avery noticed. She then came across a red no sleeved dress. She tried it on and it fell just above her knees. Avery looked at herself in the mirror. She actually looked decent.
"Mom how is this," Avery asked striking a pose. "You look lovely," Jennifer said not really looking. "I have to do my hair and makeup now," Jennifer disappeared into her room. The doorbell rang. It was too early for Colin to arrive, so Avery knew that it must be Aunt Ginny nad Uncle Josh. However, to her surprise, it was a woman that she had never seen before. "You must be Avery," She smiled. "Yes I am," Avery smiled back. "I'm Justyna," she introduced herself. Jennifer had never tod Avery about Justyna. "You look so pretty," Justyna motioned to Avery's dress. "Thanks," Avery said. "Avery who is it?" Jennifer called from the bedroom. "Umm...Justyna," Avery said trying to pronounce her name right. "Justyna," Jennifer came running from her bedroom and giving her a great big hug. "Wow, you look amazing!" Justyna said. "I don't think so..." Jennifer laughed. "You haven't aged a day," Justyna smiled. "While thanking you," Jennifer took her compliment.
"My plane got in early so I thought that I would just come over," Justyna said. "I am so glad that you came," Jennifer said hugging her again. Avery looked at them weridly. How did her mom know this lady? "Oh and this is my daughter Avery," Jennifer introduced them. "I remember when your mom first-" Jennifer inturrupted her. "So what have you been up to?" Jennifer asked her. "I have been travelling a lot. Kinda just all over the place," Justyna said. "Do you still talk to Jared?" Jennifer asked. "Not really I kinda lost contact with him," Justyna looked down. "How about Colin. Over the phone he kinda..." Jennifer trailed off. "It's complicated, I don't really wanna get into it," Justyna said. "It can't be any more complicated than what I did..." Avery watched her mom and Justyna inturract with eachother. She didn't know what to say or do. She felt so out of place. "While it's all gonna be better tonight," Justyna smiled hopefully.
"Wait, mom. Is my middle name named after her?" Avery asked. "Yeah it is," Jennifer beamed. "Wait Avery's middle name is Justyna?" Justyna smiled brightly. "
Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Jennifer approached the door cautiously. She knew who was on the other side and knew that once she opened the door her and Avery's lives were gonna change forever. When she finally opened the door she stared at Colin blankly. She did not know what to say. "You look beautiful," Colin broke the silence. "Thanks," Jennifer smiled shyly and put a fly away hair behind her ear. "And you must be Avery," Colin said looking at Avery. "Hi," Avery waved. "Your look lovely. Your dress reminds me of the one your mother wore to San Diego comic con. "While I did borrow it from her closet," Avery smiled. "Has you mom ever told you stories about her time on Once?" Colin asked. "Nope not at all. I found out about you because of a fanfic I read online," Avery said. "Well I understand why she didn't. Our relationship was complicated..." Colin looked at Jennifer. "Oh and Justyna it's nice to see you," Colin smiled. "You too," Justyna said half heartedly. "Maybe we should let you two talk," Justyna suggested. "Sounds good I need to finish preparing dinner," Jennifer agreed. She didn't want Avery to become too attached to Colin because she didn't know what the future of him in her life looked like.
Justyna needed to tell Jennifer the truth. Even though she knew that it would hurt her. "Jennifer I need to tell you something," she started. "Does it have to do with the tension between you and Colin?" Jennifer guessed. "Umm... yeah it does," Justyna exhaled. "I don't get it. What happened after I left?" Jennifer asked. "Colin knows..." Justyna stuttered. "Knows what?" Jennifer asked confused. "After you left I told him everything and he eventually remembered everything. He broke up with Helen and-" Jennifer cut her off. "And he never came to find me," Jennifer finished the sentence for her.
