Bethany:
In my head, it's all starting to make sense now. The lines are connecting by itself.
The crop top that I was suspicious about earlier, is Maya's. I once wore it to the movies. Why would Sarah even try to wear it? Not trying to be mean in any way...
This just leaves me with more questions. Who is this stalker and what did I ever do to deserve this misery? I couldn't sleep last night, the memories kept haunting me, until I physically couldn't take it anymore and I ripped a shirt in half. I know, I'm going crazy. It just feels like there's a part of me missing, like it still needs to be found, or maybe I just lost it along the way.
My mom asked me about the shirt this morning, but I just said that it was for a project. She looked sad because the shirt wasn't even mine. It belonged to someone else, maybe another reason why I tore it up.
I don't have any siblings, so my mom would be more than happy to go and buy me new clothes. I think I need it. A new start.
That's exactly why I'm going to go to school. For a new start. I'm going to pretend like everything is perfect, the way it should be, right?
My phone pings and I unlock it without any fear of what the text might say. Fearless, my best companion for today. Sorry Maya, you didn't make the cut. Speaking of, the text is from Maya:
Miss me, did you? Oh, but let's not forget, it's your doing that led me down this path of absence, isn't it? Intrigued to know why I vanished, why I left you all behind? Brace yourself, my dear.
Ugh, I have this weird feeling in my gut. It feels like I've already read it. No Beth, you're not going to be paranoid today. You're starting over.
My mom parks the car in front of the school's entrance. "Thanks mom, for everything."
"It's a pleasure honey. Remember to take your coat, you don't want to freeze to death," she says with a smile and immediately I recall the message that the stalker sent me: One more mistake and you might just freeze to death.
I'm a bit late today so I hurry to class and take my usual seat in Biology next to Brooklyn.
"Hey," I greet her with a big smile, I haven't spoken to her in a while.
"Hey Beth, I missed you so much. Nora was getting so annoying with all of her theories of why you were gone. Ugh and Jane too. Thinking every theory is brilliant. Every time Nora came up with another theory, Jane would jump up and clap her hands like a seal. Oh and Skyler was just embarrassed," Brooklyn says. I'm so glad that I can finally have a normal conversation with someone.
"Why was she embarrassed?" I ask smiling.
"Logan was looking," she says.
"Wait what? Does she have a thing for him?" I ask, I really can't believe this.
"Yeah, we always tease her about it. Oh and next time you see her, please ask her if she also loves the song All Time Low. She's going to flip," she laughs. I already missed so many inside jokes, it's not even funny.
"Why? What does that mean?" I ask, my mood changing a bit.
"It's her favorite song, because she calls Logan 'Lo-lo' and in the song they sing low-low-low-low," she sings.
"Who is singing? Listen up everyone. You're here to learn about the causes and uses of..." the teacher interrupts and we just continue.
"You should've been there, it was funnier in the moment," she says.
"Yeah...hey, you didn't mention Maya? What did she do?" I ask.
"Well, two days ago she was just sitting with as at break times, but she was on her phone the whole time. I can't say that I didn't get revenge," she says with her 'oops' face.
