Chapter 41

Juliet's

"I'm really sorry." Romeo said softly. I can hear him kahit na maingay ang mga students na nakapaligid sa amin.

"I understand." Maikling sagot ko at ngumiti. We had a talk a while ago kaya nag-decide kaming sabay na ring pumasok ng school.

But, really, I kind of expected to see him waiting for me in the living room of my house. Kilala na rin kasi siya ng mga guard. He's harmless, too.

"Good morning, Juliet."

I frowned when I saw him sitting on the sofa. He stood up and smiled. Lumapit ako sa kanya. "Morning. What are you doing here?"

"I guess," He smiled guiltily. "We need something to talk about."

I remained still. Yeah, right. I need to make things right. Para na rin sa amin ni Cindy. "I have something to tell you, too."

I motioned him to sit again and he obliged. I sat on one of the couches na malapit sa kanya. "Let's talk clear and short." I said seriously. "Cindy broke up with me."

His mouth sightly opened with my revelation. I took the opportunity to continue since he's not yet asking how or why it happened. Well, he probably already knew why.

"I love her." I stated, "I'm sorry for keeping your hopes up. I got confused, honestly. Because I liked you way back then." I took a deep breath and stared at him intently. "I wanna get back with her. And I can't make it with if you're making a move on me."

I hope I didn't offend him. I watched his expression but he's keeping his emotion in check. It's making me nervous. But I have to do this.

"I'm sorry. Pero ayoko nang dagdagan yung pain na nararamdaman Cindy. I want us—Cindy and I—to be together. Without anyone getting in the way."

"And I am getting in your way." He said, finally. Napayuko ako. I don't want to hurt anyone. But I don't want to hurt Cindy the most. And yet, I did. I'm stupid. "Juliet, I understand. Look at me," He said gently, so I did. I saw his eyes softened. "I'm sorry, too."

"I-it's okay," I stuttered, "It's my fault, too. Hindi ko na-sort out ng maayos yung feelings ko."

But right now, I'm absolutely sure of what I really feel.

"No, really," He intertwined his fingers and took a mouthful of air. "I am really sorry. It's all planned. But believe me when I say that I really like you."

"What...planned?" Parang nag-malfunction yung utak ko sa narinig, then I remembered my parents, hindi naman siguro... "Involved ba rito sina Mom and Dad?"

"No," He said quickly and shook his head. "No. Geez, labas dito ang mga magulang mo, o kahit yung parents ko."

"Then what?" I said calmly. Nakahinga ako nang maluwag dahil walang kinalaman ang mga magulang namin. I honestly don't know what to do nor what to feel if ever na sangkot sila. I really am lucky to be their daughter. "Will you please enlighten me?"

Napakamot siya sa may sentido niya. He shifts uncomfortably in his sit. Lalong kumunot ang noo ko. "My sister likes Cindy."

"Pardon?"

"My sister likes Cindy, you're ex-girlfriend," He repeat and emphasized Cindy like someone who's already in the past. I glared at him but he didn't seem to mind. "I don't know if you're familiar with her but she's Cindy's classmate—but I don't know what subject sila magkasama—and she's a transferee like me. Though mas nauna siya sa akin."

"What's her name?" Bigla akong kinutuban. Parang alam ko na kung sino...

"Her name's Nikki."

And I'm right. Siya yung girl na nakasunod kay Cindy no'n...
