"But how come Allonia is unaware of the fact that her mother is still alive?" questioned Becca looking at Abdullah curiously. A warm summer breeze blew through the car from Abdullah's open window.
"Allonia's father, Mr.Shah left my aunt or well I should say my Aunt left him, she wanted to move away and escape to a better life but my uncle wanted to stay here so my aunt left to Jordan with my mother. Since Allonia was only nine back then Mr.Shah hid the truth and told her that her mother died in a bomb blast which seemed so believable to a young girl who was seeing her loved ones eroding away every day," explained Abdullah looking out of the window. Becca turned around to look out her window, both of them stared out of their windows for a while trying to compile their nonstop thoughts.
"How come Allonia didn't know about you?" questioned Becca staring out the window in the sky at the inconstant clouds.
"We weren't allowed to meet Allonia or her family because my aunt had married a man Mr. Isa Shah, my grandparents weren't fond of so our entire family had boycott meeting them till five years ago when my mother started secretly talking to Aunt Sara and then she decided to join my family when they escaped. I had never seen Allonia or her father and I only saw Aunt Sara once the day she left for Jordan so I didn't remember her. I only got to know Allonia was my cousin from Mr.Isa Shah and Aunt Sarah's marriage certificate, I found along with her certificate. I wanted to tell her but then she'd get mad at her mother and think she left her behind because she despised her," he explained.
"How do you know Mrs.Shah didn't despise her own daughter, I mean she left her here and fleed to safety herself?" she questioned looking away from the window back at him.
"I know that because she misses Allonia a lot, she had promised herself to flee away and work hard so then she could come back get her daughter and live happily with her"
"So why didn't she come back to get her, it's been five years how can she sleep care free every night, knowing her daughter's life is on risk," she snapped back. Abdullah looked down at his lap,
"She got in an accident two years ago and hasn't been able to move her arm since. She couldn't come back to get Allonia from her father without assuring him that she would be safe so she never did."
"Did you tell her that Allonia is fine and has finally escaped?"
"Not yet because then I would have to tell her about her husband's death too." Becca placed her hand on Abdullah's, circling her thumb on his hand.
"The sooner the better, you should tell her as soon as possible."
"I will," he replied squeezing her hand back reassuringly. Becca gave him a cheerful smile making his heart jitter.
The jeep finally halted in front of rusty wooden door. Becca pulled the door handle to make her way out when suddenly Abdullah grabbed her wrist making her turn back. Her confused eyes collided with Abdullah's dreamy ones, she moved her head up and then looked down at Abdullah's hand wrapped around her wrist. He looked down and let her hand go, she slid out of the car, facing the car to wave him goodbye.
"I love you," he said leaving Becca awestruck. He waved her goodbye and left her in a trance of love.
