Dread filled my heart when I realised I was lying in her bed, the sun coming up and her fingers playing with my hair. She sighed slowly and her breath touched the side of my face, the taste of a cigarette still on my lips. I’ve done it again; I think and shake my head.

“I should be at home,” I say sitting up. When I looked down at her she was shaking her head and chuckling to herself. “What! You think this is funny? This is stupid, Ava could walk in on us, I’m hurting Monny! You’re her friend!” I say angrily.

“And you’re her boyfriend and Ava’s at a party in Devon. Anyways,” she said sitting up and throwing on a loose white singlet, “Monita’s going out for a university interview,” she continued flashing me a smile as she tilted her head. Her dusty brown eyes looking me straight hard in the eye.

“What?”

“Oh she didn’t tell you?” Carly said looking down to her nails.

“No,” I say and frown.

“Guess it’s just like when she told Jay about Griffin,” she continued and slowly moved forward towards me. I frowned, trying to move away but she kissed me again. Without the dark shade of night I felt dirty and exposed.

“I can’t do this, I love Monita,” I say and pull away, standing up and gathering my stuff.

“But she’s not all you want,” Carly said and I growled to myself. “You want confidence in a woman and Monita’s not what she used to be like,” Carly continued. I turned around and pointed at her,

“Monita is more and everything to me and I won’t have you speak about her like she’s some stranger,” I say coldly.

“I mean she’s not how I imagined her, you see to me…,” she started, completely ignoring me. I growled and searched around for my phone. “… it seems like Jay likes her, the girl at the club, talking to her all the time…”

“What!” I exclaim and turn around quickly. She looked at me surprised.

“You can’t see it?” she said looking at me like I was stupid. I frowned and she chuckled, her soft blonde hair bouncing.

“Jay and her are…”

“More than friends,” Carly said butting in. She stood and walked over to me and touched my chest, her hands sending a shiver of excitement down my spine. “He liked her when he first met her, you grew to love her. You didn’t see it at the club that night? The way that the girl looked almost like Monita…”

I strained my memory to think back to it, before Carly had turned it to darkness.

“We’re going to take our clothes off and dance to Lady Gaga!” Jay shouted loudly and the girl he was with laughed along with him. He’d had probably five too many drinks. “Alejandro, Aleconda!” he slurred and put an arm around the girl’s shoulder. “Anyone ever tell you how beautiful you are?” he said with a smile.

“All the time,” she said seriously and the smile fell, like he’d woken up from a dream and realised something. He lifted his hand to wipe his nose with the back off his hand before looking away and taking another large gulp of the drink and whispered to himself.

Carly smiled at me and lifted an eyebrow, “He was trying to find a replacement of sorts, just a shame that his band mate is so crazily in love with her to murder the guy who hurt her,” she said and I stiffened. How does she know?

“What do you mean…”

“Oh don’t give me that,” she said pulling on my shirt and her hand went up my neck before kissing my chin. “I know about everything,” she whispered into my ear before bitting it lightly, “I won’t tell a soul as long as you love me like you loved her,” she continued and looked up into my eye.
