Chapter 5: Damouchari Island

Over the next few days we sailed to the Pelion region- Damouchari where we pulled into a nice bay with a small Greek cottage. It seemed that Griffin and Monita knew the teenagers who were staying there so when we all jumped into the rubber duck and drove over there.

“Monny my little monkey!” a tall rusty tanned looking man shouted and grabbed hold of her and swung her around. Another two boys and three girls came out of the house and watched the two. I noticed one of the girls eyes went to Griffin pretty quickly, but he barely noticed. He was too busy with his hands in his pockets looking at the balcony above.

Tom caught one girl’s eye and she flicked the hair back over one shoulder before winking at him.

“Ohh, Percy!” Monita said pulling away from him and gave him a playful punch at his bare stomach that was tanked with abs.

“Guys this is Siva, Tom, Jay, Max and Nathan,” she said motioning to each of us. Her eyes glittering as they fell on mine. “They’re from the boy band The Wanted,” she continued and one of the girls squealed.

“I’m the biggest fan!” she said in a high pitched tone. Her eyes mentally undressing me as she jumped from foot to foot. She had dirty blonde hair and dusty brown eyes that gave way to a well all round tan. She was slender and small, smaller than Monita.

“This is Carly,” Monita said motioning to the girl, “And this Ava,” she continued motioning to the girl who was eye flirting with Tom. She took her eyes off him to wave to the rest of us. “And the shy guys back here,” she said pulling free of Percy’s grip to jump on the three of them.

“James and I’m not shy,” said a tall dark African American man. He was heavily built in muscle and was a very dark colour.

“And this is Connor,” she continued and hugged the smaller, pale man with thick black hair and big nerdy glasses. He grinned hugging her back before awkwardly saying,

“Hiya,”

“And last but not least Danny,” she said moving slower towards the average height man with shaggy bear brown hair that covered his forehead and stole some of his gaze. He was looking down at Monita in an intense stare like this was the first time he had seen her breath when he thought she had drowned in an ocean of blood.

“Obviously that’s Percy,” Griffin said breaking the awkward staring the two shared. Monita stood back and came to a stop next to Griffin who smiled back at her.

“So what are you guys doing here?” asked James in a deep voice as he lumbered over to a lounge chair. The two girls took off their shirts and shorts before heading towards the tiled pool they had, dragging with them Tom and Siva.

“We’re doing a break trip, it was kind of a surprise,” Max said. The Danny guy was still staring out at Monita.

“Hay how about we take the guys up to Fools Falls?” Monita said trying obviously to ignore the looks Danny was giving her. I wondered what was up with the two of them.

“Danny’s the one who knows the way,” Percy said coming back from the kitchen and bit into an apple.

“I know,” she said sternly.

“What’s Fools Falls? Sounds like Jay’s place,” Max joked.

“No it’s Nathan’s after he fell and hit his head on the hammock and landed with a belly flop into the water,” Jay said in a mater-a-fact-voice. Max broke out laughing and I watched as Griffin broke into laughter. Monita elbowed him in the gut getting a,

“What?” from him in reply.

“Well if Danny will take us I highly suggest we go,” Monita said.

“I’ll go,” I say speaking up. She looked over and smiled at me.

“So how would you describe this in your book?” asked Jay who was still panting at my shoulder from the walk here. I turned to look at him before smiling and saying,

“A crystal blue cascade of water fell in a thunderous rhythm to the blue pool of tears below. A thick jungle of green framed the scene and Jay’s panting scared the various creatures away in fear that he may be giving birth to some devil’s child.” He laughed loudly in his goofy way. Below the pool looked small and distant and I watched as Griffin pulled his shirt off above his head.

“What are you doing?” I heard Nathan say nervously and I grinned.

“Never done this before? I suggest you jump as far out as you can because you might hit a rock otherwise,” Percy said patting him on the back. I shook my head at Percy and went to stand next to Nathan as Griffin took a few steps back before running and leaping off the cliff edge and followed the waterfall down into the deep pool below. You could hear him land with an expert splash.

“Don’t listen to Percy Nath he’s just trying to freak you out,” I say putting my arm on his shoulder.

“You don’t seriously expect me to jump off that!” he said as Percy leapt off doing a forward flip and shouted out into the air. Tom followed him closely.

“Look how about a deal,” I say watching as Carly and Ava jumped hand in hand off screaming loudly. Danny stood to the side as Jay walked nervously to the edge before Max pushed him off. He followed and then Siva before I knew it, it was just Nath, Danny and I. I swallowed loudly.

“If you jump I’ll let you kiss me,” I say as suddenly a thousand butterflies were let loose in my stomach. His taken aback look only made me more nervous.

“Are you being serious?” he said shocked and stumbling over his words. “But aren’t you dating Griffin?” he continued and I burst out laughing making him very confused.

“No!” I say shaking my head, “What made you think that?”

“Well… you seemed really close and you slept in the same cabin and all,” he said seeming embarrassed.

“No Nathan, Griffin’s like my big brother. He’s protective and aggressive when any other guy comes near me and we know the best and worst of each other, but we’re not dating.”

He nodded taking it in before bitting his bottom lip like I do. He nodded and I motioned for his shirt, “Off it goes solider boy,” I say blushing slightly. He laughed and pulled it off while my eyes darted up to Danny who was still watching. Why doesn’t he just forget like the rest of us?

“Is he okay?” Nathan asked catching onto my gaze. I nodded before taking off my own shirt and shorts watching his eyes trail over my body. I blushed a little and took his hand,

“Ready?” I ask and he gave it a squeeze.

“ANY TIME TODAY MONNY!” I heard Percy shout out, “UNLESS YOU’RE MAKING OUT WITH THAT GUY AND DANNY! IN WHICH CASE FINISH IT BEFORE YOU GET DOWN HERE!” he continued. Seconds later I heard him cry out in pain and Jay’s goofy laughter wafter up through the roar of the waterfall.

With a beating heart I ran with Nathan James Sykes off a waterfall, hand in hand.
