Ellis' POV
My alarm clock beeped several times before I slapped it and it fell to the ground. I groaned and
sat up. Rubbing my eyes, I looked across my room and stared at my reflection in my floor length mirror.
My wavy blond hair stuck in 20 different directions and I laughed. I got up and threw on high-waisted
jean shorts and a flowy gray tank top. I brushed my hair and let it fall down. I wiped on mascara and
eyeliner and then pulled my hair into a messy French braid. My natural caramel highlights stood out
from the days in the hot summer sun. I grabbed a banana, said goodbye to my dad and went outside. I
felt like school was interrupting my summer, even though we were three weeks into already. My senior
year was going great, besides the fact that I hadn’t gotten out of summer mode.
I climbed into my jeep and headed off to school. On the way, I rolled down my window and the

walked off, leaving me to head off to Shop. I grabbed my stuff and bumped into someone. They
squeezed me tightly and squealed. I giggled, oh Reese. Reese, my best friend since birth, came into
view. “OMG El! Hank Morris just winked at me in the hallway!” I gave her a sarcastic grin and she
pretended to blink tears out of her eyes. “It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.” We linked arms
and continued walking.
Reese’s hazelnut brown hair was half up half down and a red bandana pulled it back. Her white
blouse was tucked into a floral skirt and her wedges were very 70s-like. She chatted aimlessly and we
entered Mr. Seth’s classroom, who glared at us when we walked in. Reese made a face when he
looked away and I stifled a laugh. I got a text from Hill and I started to text back before I heard a throat
clear. I looked up and Mr. Seth was glaring down at me. He put his hand out and looked pointedly at my
