I quickly run to the nearest tree I can find...wait...trees are wooden! Wood burns...OH I AM GOING TO KILL JAKE IF I DON'T DIE FIRST.
I look around the trees. Something that doesn't burn.....rock. Any rock I'm willing to take a chance with. "Slow down Speedy McSpeedster!" I hear Jake panting behind me.
"We only have what, 5 seconds to try to not die?"
"Uh, actually exactly 5 seconds, you got the point!" Jake says cheerfully.
I groan, still searching for a safe place. Then I spot the perfect place. It's a tall black rock but it is definitely steep and jagged. It'll be hard but I have to make it up if I want to live.
"RUN ACID! I DO NOT WANT YOU TO DIE!" Jake's voice cracks. "I CAN NOT HELP YOU UP. HURRY!"
I rush to the rock and grab the first ledge I see, yanking up my entire body weight. I fit my two feet on the ledge but it is very slim.
Then I see Jake. He's farther back than I was and rushing to the rock. My wristband starts a countdown. I freak as he keeps missing the ledge I grabbed. "Come on Jake! Use your muscles!"
"I'm sweating! I keep slipping!" He cries, "Just go on without me! Live your life. I'm a goner."
"JUMP YOU NUMBSKULL!"
I reach my hand down. The grass starts to sizzle. Jake jumps up and I shut my eyes. I can hear things burning. But I do not hear any screaming. And I feel a rather heavy weight on my arm. "OPEN YOUR EYES AND PULL ME UP WHENEVER NOW SMART GIRL!"
I look down to see Jake barely above a pit of lava. I pull him up using both my hands. He flies up onto the ledge along with me, crushing me against the rocky wall. "You saved me." Jake breathes.
"Not really. Well kinda. I suppose so." I can feel heat rushing to my cheeks. I don't know this sensation. I think it's what the Blondes call blushing.
"Do I need to reward Smart Girl? Maybe with a little kiss."
"I'm fine." I feel my heart start beating in my chest.
"You sure?" He asks with a grin.
"Abso-"
He leans close into my face and...licks my cheek. LIKE A DOG! "EW! Jake! Why?"
"I have rewarded your good deed!" He chuckles.
I try wiping my face, but my hands are trapped by Jake's huge frame, which is also keeping me from falling and making me feel safer. "How long until the lava is gone?"
My wristband buzzes, "Thirty minutes. I'm surprised the girl saved you Jake. Most people would've left you to rot. Like me."
"You should just shut up Kat. I think you are a dumb head."
"I know. But I am not. Or else I wouldn't be working as a Government, would I?"
Jake smirks and says under his breath, "They only get meatheads to be Governments because they can't think for themselves."
"What was that?"
"Nothing."
I snicker, "Kat just got out. We don't need you right now. We have thirty minutes to wait until the lava is gone."
Kat says, "And to think I was gonna keep you company. Well bye bye for now." She cackles. My wristband goes silent.
"Well way to kill the mood Smart Girl."
"Stop calling me that!"
"I'll call you what I want!"
"Then I won't talk to you." I say, sticking my tongue out.
He grabs my tongue in between his fingers. "I could always just pluck this off, then you couldn't talk to me."
"Cob noh!" I tried to say could not but I don't think my words will come out right.
"Yes I could. I'm already making your speech weird." He laughs, "Actually I couldn't just pluck your tongue off. It'd be too hard because you have such a big mouth that your tongue has to be big too." He laughs so more, leaning into me.
I feel my heart wanting to pound out of my chest. "Naybe I ha a bi ton bu nu a bi noff!"
He lets go of my tongue and I growl, trying to shrink back into the wall. He is so evil! "You aren't allowed to do that ever again!" I say.
"Why not? You sounded hilarious!"
"So? I didn't want to sound hilarious. It made my speech all screwed up."
"You'll be happy to know that you are stuck with me for 25 more minutes Smart Girl."
"I may die before then."
