I could faint. That was most certainly my mother sitting in the oversized chair. She has the same long curly brown hair and the same dark brown eyes. The same voice and the same tan-ish skin. The same height and the same...everything.

"H-How?"

"Mom?!?!?" Kat says incredulously.

"Kat. Leave Acid and me at peace right now. Please."

Kat nods, backing out of the room.

"I suppose you thought I was dead."

"I thought you were dead. You are dead. You aren't here. This is a trick." I hiss.

"I promise this is not a trick sweethe-"

"Do not call me sweetheart!"

My 'Mom' furrows her eyebrows. "Do not yell at your mother!"

"My mother didn't....my mother is dead. I watched her be dragged off. And everyone knows that once the Governments drag you off, you are sure to be dead." I utter.

"You saw me being dragged off. I was put in the same arena you were. The same Trials. I beat those Trials. I was the other woman who beat the Trials. Quite simple. Jake was not there when I was taking the Trials. In fact, I have only been President for a year."

"A year?!?!? This past year has had the most killings, most Beats, and most deadly things ever to happen to anything and everyone and everything!!!"

My mom smiles, "I know. Isn't it just...wonderful? To be on top of the world. To own everything. Everyone's lives at your mercy, your fingertips. I control the buttons now."

"How is it wonderful?" I could barely breath. I thought I knew my mother. She was sweet and kindhearted and would never ever say anything so...foul.

"You mean, you don't think it is wonderful?" She frowns. "I thought you'd be better than that. I watched you kill that Government-"

"To get my favorite person out of this whole place back. Jake is the only one worth living for. And I only took one life. The other man...where is that note that he gave me?"

I realize I have had that note extracted from me. Someone stole it! Or I dropped it...nah someone took it! "You mean this small note we found on your being when we took you from the Trials?"

She holds up the small scraggly note he handed me. "Yes! Give it to me."

"Read it elsewhere. I want your attention right now Acid."

She tosses at me and I pick it up off the ground. "Now Acid, we have an issue. You do not know the...rules regarding finishing the Trials and the buttons. One, Brunettes do not have buttons. Two, Bru-"

"Brunettes don't have their own buttons?"

"No. They are unaffected by buttons. They are immune to them. Which is why we hold them at such a low ranking."

"We should be a higher ranking if-"

"THAT IS NOT HOW IT WORKS!" She takes a breath, "Two, when someone finishes the Trials they have two choices. One is to live Elsewhere and leave this Place. Two is to become President."

"You mean become Killer." I growl.

"Whatever floats your boat. Now, you need to know that you may take someone with you if you decide to live Elsewhere."

"You could've taken me with you. You could've left this place and taken me with you when you won. We could've left this place all behind us!" I cry out. "I could've been spared going through the Trials! I could've-"

"I don't care about you that much. I'd rather be in charge. No offense."

"You. I-I mourned forever!!!! I BECAME A SHELL OF WHAT I ONCE WAS!"

"I don't care. Go talk to your boy. Figure out what you want."

Kat comes back into the room and takes my arm, "Let's go."

I feel a tear fall down my cheek, "I HATE YOU MOM! YOU ARE THE WORST PERSON EVER!"

Woooow! That was intense wasn't it?

Poor Acid! She  'found' her mom. But it wasn't the mom she remembered was it? And she wasn't really looking either.
