It was Monday again. I hated Monday's, sometimes because I found it so hard to leave my bed after the weekend. The weather was warm in New York, and you could tell that it was summer.
I thought about what to wear and decided to go with a sleeveless flowery top, white pencil skirt, and my favorite 5-inch heels.
I still couldn't forget what had happened over the weekend at the CEO's party. I pitied the handsome stranger, knowing that my slaps could hurt. He was actually trying to help me. I felt so embarrassed that I had to leave the party because I didn't want to see him again. I felt guilty for insulting him.
"Hm, Candy, you can be a jerk sometimes."
Needless to say, he was hot and very attractive. He was the first man that had effect on me in 6 years. I couldn't forget the soft graze of lips on mine. I touched my lips as I looked in the mirror, the feeling still lingering.
I forced myself to think about something else as I adjusted my blouse, but my thoughts stuck to the party. I had fled in a hurry, telling Mr. John that I had an emergency back at home so that he wouldn't question me
I walked into the office, heading straight to my desk. The feel in the office was a bit different, hushed whispers filling the air. I guessed that something was happening or had already happened. My boss wasn't at his desk, so I assumed he had stepped out briefly.
I was arranging my desk, straightening files and throwing out old papers, when I heard my name.
"Candy, there you are! How is everything at home? I hope the emergency wasn't bad. My wife was especially worried," Mr. John said, his tone concerned.
"Everything's fine," I replied, unable to look at him because I'd lied about leaving the party. It was kind of him to ask."Is there something happening with the company?Everyone's whispering," I asked, changing the subject.
"I think it's about the new CEO. Today is his first day. He is actually in his office now, he came in early to catch up on information before the meeting starts." Mr. John spoke as he was typing on his computer, studying the screen intently
"Oh yes, today is his first day, I totally forgot." I must be getting old.You met him already?" I asked.
"Yes, he called me in this morning to talk to me. There will be a meeting at 9 am in the conference room. The CEO wants to officially introduce himself to the managers and directors."
"Great, no problem boss. I will be there."
I couldn't wait to meet the new CEO and see what changes would be made under his leadership. I hoped he would be easy to work for, like his grandfather.
At 9 am sharp I made my way to the conference room with my boss. All other managers and directors were present. We took our seats as the door opened and the CEO walked in. I tilted my head to get a good look at him and froze, shock paralyzing my body.
The CEO was the young man I had issues with over the weekend. I prayed for the ground to open and swallow me up that instant. He walked towards his seat, greeting some of the executives. And then it hits me.
"Oh my God, I slapped the CEO of the company I work for and accused him of sexual harassment," I whispered to myself. My hands grew cold and my heart sped up,beating so loudly I thought everyone would hear it. "I'm finished!"
The meeting started and we were asked to introduce ourselves. I took deep breaths, trying to calm myself before it was my turn. I can't let my nerves get the better of me. I knew that he had seen me but hadn't shown any sign of recognition. I stood up to introduce myself timidly and he just kept watching me.
"M-my name-uh, sorry." Please get it together, Candy. I started again. "My name is Candy Lopez, sir." I sat down immediately, my hands sweating furiously.
"Miss Candy?"
"Yes...Yes, sir?" Our eyes met and even amidst my worries, I was still attracted to them. They were so beautiful.
"You didn't mention what department you are in and your position in the company," he said, smiling.
Shit. I quickly stand again. "Project management department and I am the assistant project manager," I said quickly looking down at my hands. Truth be told, I am a little bit intimidated.
"Okay miss, please sit down." I think he is smiling mischievously.
"Thank you."
He is the final person to introduce himself.
"My name is Gabriel Smith, the new CEO of J. Smith Enterprise. You all will get to know me better as we work together. I don't want to take much of our time. Let's move on to the agenda of the meeting, please. Thank you".
Next on the agenda was discussing the ongoing projects running in the company. I just stay silently in my chair, like a scared dog licking her wounds. I hope he doesn't mention what I did to him at the party.
Every time I lifted my head, I could see him staring at me. When we make eye contact, he smiles. I can say throughout the meeting his eyes were mostly on me. I 'm not sure why, but I 've got a feeling that something is up.
I was so relieved when the meeting ended and we all filed out of the conference room.
As I was leaving I heard Gabriel Smith say, "Mr. John, can I see you for a minute in my office, please?"
"Of course," my boss replied. "Candy, you go ahead and I will meet you later."
I practically ran out of the conference room, quickly making my way to the restroom to think properly. "What is wrong with you, Candy? You have never acted like this," I said to myself in the mirror. "Keep it together, girl." I took a deep breath and retouched my makeup before heading back to my office.
30 minutes later, I was at the coffee machine getting myself a cup when Mr. John walked in and gave me the scariest new of my life.
"Candy, you have been temporarily transferred to the CEO's floor as his new assistant on projects. We both thought you would be the best fit."
"What?" I screamed and the coffee I was holding sloshed out of the cup and spilled on my legs.
"Hot, hot hot!" I cried out, attempting to shake the burning liquid off my leg.
My boss was quickly beside me to see if I was okay. He asked why I was shocked at his announcement.
"Oh, don't mind me," I told him. "It was just a surprise."
He then threw me the second shock.
"You will be moving to your new office today. It's just beside the CEO's door and your work with him starts tomorrow."
"What!" Calm down. Deep, slow breaths."Why me, boss? Aren't there other people in the department that can do that?"
"I know, but he single handily picked you"
It was like chilled water was poured over my head.
"This is the end" I mumbled sadly.
Gabriel's POV

"I found her, in my company. I couldn't forget her since the party. I had sleepless nights throughout the weekend thinking about her. I never thought I would see her again". I thought
Seeing her again filled me with happiness. I have never experienced this before. I think I have fallen for her since we first met at the party.
"I'm not letting go this time," I whispered, determined. "I want her."
