Chapter 14

Gabriels's POV:

I became the happiest man alive after I and Candy became a couple. I could go to the end of the world to make her happy. I wanted to know where this relationship takes us, but I know within me that I really want to take things to the next level, waiting any longer, is not an option for me. Candy told me she will be traveling to visit her mom and I thought that will be an opportunity for me to know her. I told her I will follow her to visit her mom and she agreed after much persuasion. We took some days off from work for the journey. We arrived Florida airport and we rented a car to drive to where her mom stays. We stopped at her mom's flower shop first to check on her.

"Hello darling" a petite and beautiful woman came towards us to hug Candy. I guess that is her mom. Candy looks so happy with a bright smile on her face.

"Mom" She squealed "I have missed you so much" She hugged her mom back.

"Me too darling" I just stood back looking at the wonderful reunion between mother and daughter. She looks so much like her mom. I would have called them sisters if I had not known Candy at all. Her mom looked at me, standing and just looking at them and asked "Who is this handsome young man," She asked smiling at me

"Gabriel Smith" shaking her hand.

"Mom, Meet Gabriel, My boyfriend" Candy introduced me shyly, "Gab, meet my mom"

"Pleasure to meet you, ma'am," I said politely

"Come on, Just call me Emily" she answered. " I feel old when you call me ma'am." She said while laughing.

"I am happy to finally meet my daughter's boyfriend, I thought I will grow old and die without meeting one" she joked

"Come on mom, stop it" Candy cried. We all laughed.

Emily looked at me and asked "Come here young man, tell me, how did she capture herself a fine looking man like you"

I laughed and replied " No Emily, It's the other way round, I capture her for myself, not without getting a slap on my cheek from her from the first day we met" I grinned at Candy.

Emily was surprised at my confession to her mom. "Candy, What did I tell you about being violence" she gave her a warning look and smiled at the same time.

"Mum, don't listen to him" Candy replied hitting me on my chest, I held my chest and pretended it hurts and we all laugh at my reaction. Emily is a lovely woman and friendly.

"Emily, that was the motivation I actually needed to go after her at all cost" I chipped in.

Emily decided to close her shop early, so she could spend time with her daughter. We all went home for a family get together. She showed me all the pictures of Candy growing up and I discovered that her beauty has been since birth, she looks adorable. She really looks like her mom even at her young age. She really looks beautiful in the pictures.

We had dinner together and sat down in the living room chatting. I told Emily about myself and family and she was impressed by what I have achieved at my age. Candy slept off on the couch with Emily and I still awake.

I decide to talk to Emily about my relationship with her daughter. "Emily, I will like to talk to you" It is now or never, I had butterflies in my stomach as I raised my head with determination and stare at her. She looked at me prompting me to talk.

" I love your daughter very much, and I will like to take things further with her, but I will like your permission first" call me a traditional man, I just felt I need to do that as a sign of respect to her parents.Emily seems taken aback at me asking for permission, this is the 21st century.

" I appreciate you asking for permission, it's hard to find young men today that still does that" I smiled at her reply. " Talk to candy, I am okay with whatever decision she makes. So what do you mean by taking things further?" She asked, the funny and smiling Emily is gone and all I can see is a mother that wants the best for her daughter?

"I want to marry her" I confessed holding my breath for her reaction.

"Hmmm" was all she said and kept looking at me. After few seconds she asked, "Does she want that too?"

" Well, I will have to ask her to find out"

"I have nothing against it, in fact, I'm happy. Her bring a boyfriend home is the best thing that ever happens to me. If she loves you and wants to be with you, I support you."

"Thank you, Emily, you approving really means a lot to me." I smiled, wow now I can breathe.

"I will ask you not to hurt my daughter, take care of her. I don't want her to go through what I went through. I have always been worried about her because I know she didn't want to be in a relationship because of what happened between me and her father.".

" I promise, I won't hurt her. I will love her to the best I can. I assure you Emily and cherish her for the rest of my life" I vowed.

She smiled and said " Now, Now, you tell Candy that not me, I am so happy she found someone who loves her, thank you, Gabriel," she said while standing up and pat my shoulder.

"No thank you" I stood up to see her leave

"Please take her to the room, I have two room here, you can sleep here on the couch or manage with her in the room if she agrees." She walked towards her room and suddenly stops, looked back at me with a smile on her face " Gabriel, it was nice talking to you. You are welcome to my family. I don't trust you youths of today, so whatever you both do, keep it down" she smiled and left.

"Whaaaa" I was shocked at what she said. How can she throw that at me and leave like it's nothing? "She is cool" I mumbled with a big smile. That is just what my grandma will do.

We quickly left in the morning to catch our flight after saying our bye to Emily. I am so happy I met her. Candy was reluctant to leave her mom. "You are such a crying baby" I whispered in her ears. she looked at me pouting.

"I don't know when I will see her again"

"Soon my dear, very very soon" I winked at her, while she looked at me with her I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MEAN FACE, and we drove off to the airport.
