A few months had passed by, approximately ten, and nothing out of the ordinary had occurred. Kakashi still went on missions and Itachi still babysat Rin.
Of course the almighty Gai had offered to babysit the little girl on many occasions but after a few hours alone, the silver haired boy had returned to a destroyed house and a crying child.
Rin had spoken her first two words. ‘Mama’ being the first one, much to her dad's annoyance, and then it quickly changed to ‘dada’ after some verbal coaching.
Sasuke was a fast learner and knew a variety of words. The two teens hoped his vocab would not rub off on the little girl due to the fact that he had picked so many curse words.
Rin's motor skills still had yet to develop, making his life easier but also worried him and his friends. They all kept telling him that ‘each kid develops at their own pace’ but he was still worried. Every dad would be.
Right now, everyone was at his house for a huge play date with all of the kids. All of the other parents were being supportive and suggested a hang out.
Shikaku brought Shikamaru, Inoichi brought Ino, Choza brought Choji, Tsume brought Kiba and Shibi brought Shino. Everyone was there and everyone's kids were there. Kurenai and Asuma were there to play with all of the kids and Gai didn't want to be excluded.
Of course Kurenai was in heaven, she loved kids and especially when they were at such a young age. Rin was the youngest, her first birthday was two weeks away and everyone else about seven or eight months older than her.
The fathers, or in Kiba’s case mother, were all in the kitchen drinking. Kakashi and Asuma joined in, the other dads telling the silver-haired boy that he deserved a drink and Asuma simply didn't care.
“So how has parenthood been treatin’ ‘ya?” Tsume asked. He shrugged. “I thought it would be harder, considering what Itachi has told me about Sasuke. I mean, she sleeps through the night, she can't walk or crawl so I don't lose her and eats anything I give to her except peas.”
Everyone shared envious glances. “You seem to have gotten ahold of the best kid. Shika is too smart for his own good. I found a staircase of books and an open front door. Luckily he only made it to the yard.” He laughed. “His mother would have killed me.”
Everybody laughed and patted him on the back. “Kiba nearly got mauled the other day. He kept pulling my partners tail and she finally snapped at him.” She sighed and looked over at all of the kids.
They talked and shared stories of their kids antics until about nine pm when the infants started getting fussy. They bid farewell to the teen and went home.

It was Thursday, the day Kakashi and Itachi were assigned to lead a mission with Gai, Asuma and a few other people. That meant Kurenai was going to watch Rin today.
She knocked on the door but no one answered. It was dark out, four am, and although Kakashi was usually late, he was also usually up early. His mission started at five, so she knew he was up.
She knocked again but no answer, so she let herself in. The house was dark and warm, surprising for it to be late November. She went into the living room and the sight before her was one she would never forget.
Her friend lay there, asleep on the couch. He lay on his back, legs crossed and one arm behind his head and the other in his stomach. His daughter was underneath his hand with a blue pacifier in her mouth and her ears twitching.
She hated to ruin the moment, but he had a mission to get to and a team that needed him. So Kurenai shook him slightly, watched him stir and then go back to sleep. Plan B, she slapped him.
He shot up, instantly bringing Rin closer to him and pulled a kunai out of his pocket. He hazily glanced around until his black eyes met her red ones. He sighed and put his weapon away.
“What.” He asked *demanded* blatantly. “Someone has a mission~” She sang and giggled at the end. He groaned and stood up, gently handing Rin to the female and went to shower.
She sat there the entire time and stared at the small girl. She was so little, so innocent and a breeze to take care of. Of course Kurenai was like her mum, always there to do the motherly things that Kakashi wished he could do.
So when he came down from his shower, fully equipped in his ninja gear, it was no surprise that she hadn't moved an inch from her spot. He quickly grabbed the list off of the fridge labeled ‘Rin's need-to-knows’ and stuffed it in her pink and purple togo bag.
He knew that Kurenai was more than capable of taking care of his daughter, but he could never be too safe. She knew the schedule; Breakfast, downtime, playtime, nap at three pm, dinner, bath time and then bed.
The same thing happened everyday for the most part except for some ‘fussy days’ as he would call them or maybe some days where she did nothing but sleep.
Kurenai walked out the front door with him. He handed her the bag and kissed Rin on the head. “Remember if there are any issues go to Itachi’s mother ASAP. I put the list in the bag and-” She quickly cut off his ramblings. “I know what to do. Relax. Go do your mission.” He sighed and nodded.
She was walking to her house with the kid and making funny faces. Rin laughed and giggled at the teen’s faces. “Your daddy is overprotective, huh? Yes he is!” She told like Rin could comprehend her.

Time skip over about four days~

Her dad came back on Wednesday late at night, the day before her birthday. He was beyond ecstatic that he had made it home in time for her first birthday. He was so excited, that he was practically bouncing on Kurenai’s door step.
He knocked on the door and it nearly immediately opened. He plucked Rin out of her arms and swung her around like he hadn’t seen her in months. Kurenai giggled at their reunion and went to fetch her things. “So how was she? Any issues?” He asked and peppered the little ones face with kisses. “She was fine. A little fussy because she’s a daddy’s girl and missed you, but good overall.” The ravenette laughed.
“Good. Ready to go now, Rin?” He smiled and bounced her around as she gurgled in delight. He waved to his friend and made his way home.
They walked home in silence, the small kid bathing in her father's presence and the boy soaking up the attention. He showered her with soft kisses and snuggles all the way home. He unlocked the door and carried her inside.
He glanced up at the clock that read 2am. “Happy birthday, baby girl.” He whispered and set her down in her crib. He hadn't gotten her much, considering how spoiled she was at is, but he had found a stuffed sloth on one of his missions that he knew she would love.
So he set it in her crib, the toy immediately grabbing her attention, and watched her hug it close to her body. The gift itself was a bit bigger than her so watching the interaction was even cuter.
No matter how much crap Asuma gave him for being so soft-hearted and raising such a daddy’s girl, no matter how Gai annoyed him when asking to babysit and no matter how much he hated having to worry over her when he left, one thing is clear.
Kakashi Hatake loves his daughter.
