' Just some scars ' | Soulmate AU: Any injury that your soulmate gets on themselves shows up on you as well

I'm an orphan that lives in New York cities alleyways. Though, cramped, dirty, and wet, it's the best I can get, which I'm thankful for. I'm thankful for all the scraps I get, all the pieces of clothing I find, and any spare money anyone gives me.

It's a hard life, I admit but it's better than nothing. I mean, it could be worst. I laughed bitterly.

Who are you kidding, (Y/N)? This is as bad as it gets. I thought to myself and I absently messed with the end of my shirt.

It was quite weird seeing a 19 year old girl wearing pants and a shirt, well, if the clothing could even be called a shirt or pants. Nonetheless, it's all I had. Sure, I got dirty looks from those who passed by, but what good would a dress do for me?

No good.

At all.

It would slow me down, get in my way and that's something I can't have.

I stumbled out of my small home, morning time already. Morning time means scavenging time. My clothes clinged to my body in a tight and uncomfortable hug. My hair was damp, just as my old rags. I sighed and wrung some water out of my hair while walking down the street. Odd looks followed me but I ignored them.

I yelped when someone bumped into me, or I bumped into them, who knows exactly. Either way, when I looked up the person was no where to be seen. I growled to myself and pushed myself off the ground. I looked at my hands, sharp cuts going from my palm to my fingers, blood trickled down my arm.

That explains the stinging

I pushed my hands to my shirt, letting the blood get soaked up by the cotton. I continued to walk

As I wandered around, so did my mind. Soulmates. My soulmate didn't exactly write anything on their arms. Every once in a while a bruise would show up on my legs, but nothing serious. They were cautious, obviously. They were most likely covered in scars and bruises and..

I looked down on my wrist, ink stuck to my skin. At one time, it said words, but now it just held a black blob shape.

The only thing I knew about my soulmate is their name and where they lived. They were smart, they wrote Caribbean and Alexander on their wrist, and in return I wrote (Y/N) and New York. Nothing came through after that. How can I be sure he saw? How can I be sure he cares? Well.. he wouldn't once he sees me. If he ever does.

Suddenly someone grabs my arms and spins me around. I let out a yelp and push the person away and book it. I don't now where I was running but I was just running

"Wait!" Someone yelled and I heard footsteps follow me. I push past people and jump out of the way. People are yelling at me and screaming but I still here that same voice telling me to slow down. I don't.

A carriage was coming up, this was my chance to get him off my tail. As the carriage comes up I run across the road, spooking the horse. The carriage stops and the house revs back. I quickly take a hiding spot, keeping my head down and walking at a normal pace.

I look behind me to see a man frantically looking around, he held his hand. It looked like he was pressing down on it. What did he want with me? I hadn't done anything. I don't steal my food, I scavenge it. Anything new I get is from people that have at least an ounce of kindness.

Deep dark world, as horrible as ever, but at least there's some kindness. I sighed and just stopped walking. Maybe he didn't mean any harm. Maybe he was my soulmate. I let out a humored laugh and continued to write.

I glanced behind me and caught the man's eyes. Oh, his eyes. A chill went throughout my body, it was like I was in a trance.

A trance which was broken when I, again, ran into someone and I was pushed onto the ground. I stopped my fall with my hands and knees, further damaging my hands as I slid in the ground and messing up my knees. I hissed in pain and not too far away, I heard a soft yelp.

I gasp in pain as I struggle to stand up. Hands are suddenly around my arm and I feel a warm liquid drip onto my arm. I start to pull away but the grip tightens.

"Wait.. please." I turn to look at the person, the same man with the beautiful eyes, and the silky hair.

"Please, I didn't do anything wrong, honestly! I haven't stole anything, I haven't hurt anyone, I don't even talk to anyone!" I stated begging. "I promise!" He chuckled and moved some hair out of my eyes.

"My soulmate is quite talkative." He mumbled, I noticed he was scanning over my features. I didn't quite hear what he said, my voice drowned out his.

"And I'm homeless, I've got nothing of value-" Finally his words sunk in and I stared at him. "Soulmate?" He gave another chuckle and nodded. He removed his hand from my arm and showed me his hands. They were bloodied and an identical scar ran down his hand, from me. He then pointed to his knees, little blood splatters on his jeans.

"Uhm.. s-sorry." I stuttered and looked down. He saw him smile out of the corner of my eyes.

"It's quite alright. You know... you get hurt mighty much." I smiled and looked back up.

"I'm innocent in all aspects, all but that. I do tend to get a few scrapes." He laughed, it was a hearty laugh, it was warm. I loved it.

"You're funny, (Y/N), I'm glad my soulmate has a sense of humor." I giggled and a bright smile graced my features. It's been a while since I was this happy, and I've just met him.

"Thank you, Alexander. It's good to know I've pleased you already." He took my arm and we started walking down the streets. This time, no one gave us weird looks, it was like they knew we had found our other half.

"My last name is Hamilton, and yours?" I shook my head.

"I don't know, but I'm hoping it will be Hamilton as well soon." I smiled up at him and he returned it.

"Well, I am in charge of your happiness now, so your wish is my command.. Mrs. Hamilton."

Did the world brighten up just a bit? Oh, think it did. It was all thanks to Alexander. My Alexander. My soulmate. I let out a happy laugh and bounced on my feet.

Thank you.
