' Traumatic Event '
'Wake Up, Wake Up.' A voice repeated within the young woman's head. 'Wake Up, Wake Up.' it repeated. Samantha Giddings face scrunched up, her conscious trying to will the voice to go away, but it refused. After a while her conscious gave up and instead woke her up in a cold sweat. Her eyes scanned the room, looking for a threat, but found nothing. What was telling her to wake up? She sighed, throwing her feet over the bed and standing on the cold floor, her muscles clenching at the sudden lack of warmth. She rubbed her head and began walking into the kitchen, maybe a cold glass of water would fully wake her up.
The floor creaked under her footsteps, something that didn't alarm her, with how old her house was. Everything creaked and screeched, and it seemed so much louder at night. She grabbed a flashlight that sat on the hall table, switching it on and then proceeding. She only lived with her dad, her mom suffered, and passed, from cancer when she was around the age of twelve. However, that didn't stop the fact that she didn't live alone, and her old house was pretty small and packed together. Their lights had a habit of buzzing and popping when first turned on, which woke up her dad, or her, if the situation was switched around. The flashlight sufficed.
She placed the light on the kitchen counter, facing towards the roof, so the light would reflect down and show her surroundings. She grabbed a cup and went to the fridge, opening it and getting ice out of the cooler. She tried to be as quiet as she could, but some ice still clunked against the glass cup. She would then go to the sink and fill the glass up with water. She picked up the flashlight and shone it at a clock that hung atop the stove, sipping her water as she did so, It read: 3:26 a.m.
Her attention was pulled to the hallway as a few steady creaks come from the dark. She stopped, squinting, but tried to shake it off. The house was old. Everything creaked and screeched. Despite her own words, she leaned across the counter and peaked around the corner, the wall blocking a full view. She shone the light down the hallway and slightly laughed at herself. Nothing was there, like she predicted, still she was on edge.
Ever since the horrible, traumatic event, on Blackwood Mountain, Sam has been a bit paranoid. Could anyone blame her? Sure, no one believed that she saw, that all of them saw, a Supernatural being, a Wendigo, and they didn't have to believe. Everyone did believe that her and her friends went through hell, wendigo or not, Joshua Washington made sure of that. But, could anyone blame him? He wasn't on his medicine, he wasn't in a good mental state, and his therapist sure wasn't helping. You would think Josh would get sent to jail, but he got off with community service and going to see a therapist everyday at 6 p.m. Dr. Hill, though, was not so lucky. He was sent to prison for verbal and physical abuse of patients.
Sam placed the cup in the sink, jumping when she heard another set of steady creaks. Just the house, just the house. And then more creaks. No, not just the house. "Dad?" She called out, grabbing the flashlight once more, she hoped it was her dad. However, her hope faltered when she received no answer. She watched enough horror movies to know she wouldn't investigate the noise. She slowly, as to not alert the 'intruder', walked over to the home phone. The screen lit up green once she picked it up off the hook and she carefully dialed 911, the beeps being louder than she would have liked.
She found herself getting even more frightened when the creaks started up again, quicker, and she quickly concluded that it was an intruder, not just her old house. "I'm calling the police." She found herself saying, her voice hard and fearless. Once again, the creaks, caused by heavy footsteps, stopped. Afraid of the police, huh?
