Nick was in a panic. He had to stop Ethan from getting Selena to the present right NOW.
'But wouldn't it be great? You always wanted to see her again.' the small voice in his mind said.
No. I mean Yes. I mean... Nick was frustrated. He had loved Selena with all his heart. Still did, as a matter of fact. But he couldn't let Ethan do that. Chuck would be furious.
'But it won't be your fault. It's not like you told Ethan to do it. You can just sit back till Ethan brings Selena. Then you would be able to spend the rest of your life with her. Forever.' The voice was sugar coated sweet. As he listened to the voice, He thought 'Yeah. I can be with Selena again.'
"Nick? Hello?" Selena said. That immediately made Nick burst out of his own bubble.
What the hell was he thinking?! He couldn't let Ethan do that. One tiny change in the past could cause a whole lot of chaos in the future. Things happened for a reason. Selena isn't supposed to be with him in the present. His heart panged at his own thoughts.
"Yes. Sorry about that. I had a lot on my mind." Nick said as he massaged his temples.
"So, I'm still processing here. Isn't it a good thing that Ethan is bringing Selena back from the past for you? She obviously means a lot to you." Selena said.
"It's not that simple. My dumbass brother thinks that he can just bring Selena to the present and Yippie! it's over. But it's not. Everything can change because of it. You can't meddle with the past. It's dangerous. There is a reason why there are only a few limited time holders." Nick answered.
Selena frowned at that. Nick still looked quite deep in his thoughts, Not moving an inch.
"So..." Selena said.
"So what?" Nick replied, scrunching his eyebrows.
"Aren't you going to go after him?" Selena said it like it's the obvious thing in the world.
"I'm still thinking...I think I need to visit Chuck first." Nick said, sighing. Nick abruptly stood up and started to make his way to upstairs again.
"Where are you going?" Selena said.
"Ah...Goodness. Where are my manners? I'm really thankful for what you all did for me. But I must go now. I need to stop Ethan right now before he does anything stupid. It was a pleasure meeting you. And I really hope you and Sarah keep my identity a secret. It would mean a lot to me. Sorry, and Thank you. For everything. Bye." Nick said and turned around. He really needed to rush.
"Wait..." Selena mumbled. She couldn't let him go yet. She just met the beautiful stranger, but it felt like ages that they knew each other. She had grown attached to him. He weaseled into her heart like it was nobody's business and was just going to walk away like that?
Nick just kept going up the stairs. He hadn't heard Selena's mumble for he was too busy thinking about what Chuck would do to him when he told him that he had lost his precious Time holder.
"Nick! I said wait!" Selena said more loudly. This caught Nick's attention.
"Yes?" Nick said as he raised his eyebrow at her.
"You didn't pay me back." Selena said as she crossed her arms. She was quite surprised at herself. Where did that come from?
"Excuse me?" Nick replied, confused.
"I said that you didn't pay me back. You said that you were going to pay the hospital fee back to me, but you didn't." Selena said, now confident.
Nick was bewildered. He made a grand dramatic ending speech, and she was talking about MONEY?! God, was she for real?
"Um..I'll have to pay you back later. My wallet was inside my coat." Nick replied, half amused and half speechless.
"Yeah, right. How can I believe you?" Selena said.
"You don't believe me, Sweetheart?" Nick raised an eyebrow at her.
Selena was dying on the inside. What the hell was she doing? It WAS quite a money that was spent today, But she honestly didn't need Nick to pay her back for it. And his face! Is that guy real? She was so sure that he was an angel, on the outside anyway. The moment he called her Sweetheart, her heart started to beat crazy fast. She had to stop herself from blushing.
"No. I don't. I really don't know much about you." Selena replied, raising her eyebrows too.
Nick let out a sigh. He really didn't have time for this.
"I swear that I'll pay the money back to you. But right now, I really have to run." Nick said exasperatedly.
"Then take me with you." Selena said.
Nick blanched out. Was she insane? He couldn't take her to meet Chuck!
"Me too!" Sarah ran out of the kitchen, finished with her pancakes.
"Look, girls. I can't take you guys with me. Now I promise to pay you back. You guys need to stay here. It's Christmas after all." Nick said, trying to be convincing. Did it work, did it work..?
"Nope. You are stuck with us till you pay us back, Sir." Selena answered cheekily.
Damn it. Nick sighed.
"Fine. Let's go. I really need to hurry." Nick replied with a sullen face.
