Ch. 20

'Fuck, it's so hot in here!' I thought as I threw the blankets off me and stood up. I lumbered over to the thermostat and saw that it was seventy-two degrees.

'Why am I so hot?' I wondered, glancing out the window. The sun was going down, giving the sky a pinkish-orange color.

I scratched the small strip of facial hair on my chin as I thought. I pulled out my phone and looked at the calendar. It was a full moon.

'Fuck,' I thought instantly, quickly typing out a text to my best friend whom I call Simba.

"Full moon dude. I can't let Hannah see." It read.

A lifetime later, she sent me back, "Fuck, you're right. But doesn't she already know?"

"Yes," I said, "but we haven't talked about it since I told her, and she has never seen it."

"Can you control yourself?"

"You know the answer to that!"

"Shit, man. I dunno, I guess you just gotta get away for the night, or take your chances."

I already knew that. Fuck! I didn't know what to do. The sun kept getting lower and I was so hot that I was down to my underwear, AC on full blast and I was still sweating.

I saw my reflection in the window and noticed my eyes were golden brown.

'Aw, fuck me!' I thought, bolting out the bedroom door. Hannah was in the living room.

"Hey, sexy," she called, making me freeze in my spot. 'Just don't let her see your eyes. Get out of the house,' I told myself.

"Hey," I replied slowly.

"Whatcha doin' in your underwear? It's really cold. Unless you were coming to get me for something..." she giggled and stood up.

I stood rigid, my eyes closed. I heard her walk over to me, felt her lips touch my neck, her breasts press against my arm. My heart began to race, and I whined quietly as I felt my teeth elongating.

Hannah jumped back when she heard the sound of my facial bones snapping and stretching. "What the-" she started.

I turned to face her. Her eyes widened in shock and horror. I ran out of the apartment and farther until I found woods.

I fell to my knees right behind the tree line and allowed myself to finish shifting. It was extreme pain for just a moment--then I was a wolf.

I'm a bit bigger than a normal wolf but not by much. I am about as big as the extinct dire wolf. My pelt--pure black, fading to a reddish brown at the tips. I have a charcoal underbelly up to my chin, my eyes a bright, eerie honey color.

I already felt my consciousness begin to fade. I ran towards the deeper woods, until my legs collapsed under me. I had tunnel vision.

A sound of crunching leaves and twigs reached my sensitive ears, and I swiveled my head, my eyes widening in horror.

It was Hannah.
