Ch. 4 (Alec's POV)

I saw Felix run past me as he left the house. I watched him run down the street until I couldn't see him anymore. Curious, I poked my head inside and looked at my step-mom questioningly. She just shrugged and said, "I said the wrong thing on accident."

God, why does she have to be so dramatic? Why can't she just accept that "he" is actually a girl?

I rolled my eyes and continued with what I was doing. But twenty minutes later, Felix is still gone. I began to worry. Even with this gender crap, he is my sibling.

I told Mom that I was leaving to get Felix and I set out in the direction he went at a jog.

It seemed forever before I saw a lump on the ground, in the shallow ditch by the road. I slowed down briefly before I realized that there was an arm sticking out in the road, and that lump wore Felix's jacket.

I ran to him and pulled him up into my lap. His head lolled to the side lifelessly. I slapped him a few times. No response.

"Felix! Come on, wake up! Felix! Felix!" I yelled. The only thing I got was his chest rising up and down slowly, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.

I picked him up and draped him over my shoulders and began to walk home. Sometimes he would cough, and I felt drops of warm liquid land on my face.

"Fuck, Felix... What happened?" I asked, though I knew I wouldn't get an answer. He just lay limp in my arms, continuing his disturbed breathing.

'Fuck.'
