Chapter 8: The Sweetness of Classical Music

"So that's why she's here..." You mumbled.

Ayato was silent. The atmosphere changed so drastically. You two still continued your walk, until Ayato froze in place. Not out of fear, just out of confusion.

"Ayato," Subaru growled. "Why does (Y/N) smell like blood?"

Ayato didn't answer him, instead, he simply walked around Subaru, your hands still attached. Then you didn't feel Ayato's tight grip, you were in thin air. But that feeling of weightlessness was quickly changed into you being held in Subaru's arms. You weren't scared, well, a little you were. Subaru did have an unsettling aura emitting from him. You also discovered the little drop of blood caressing his chin. Checking your body for wounds quickly and quietly, you were relieved you weren't bleeding. For once.

But, you had the same sweet scent cling to your nose. It was coming from Subaru, most definitely the from the blood dripping off his jawline. He drank Yui's blood, too?

"What the hell is wrong with you? You told her, didn't you?!" Subaru glared at Ayato, hoping that his brother had a death wish.

"Tch. You can't keep her in the dark forever, Subaru." Ayato replied fearlessly. "You know that with her curious little mind, she'd find out one of these days."

"Yet you keep forgetting that she isn't developed enough to drink."

"Oh, come on! I was drinking blood when I was eight!"

"She's not you, Ayato! You can't force her like that."

"She has the blood of pure-blooded vampires running through her veins, I'm pretty sure she's plenty capable. And she is."

"You're confirming...!"

"That she drank my blood? Yeah. Of course, I let her."

You were very confused and now very scared. You understood perfectly what they were talking about. Ayato did say earlier that if anyone found out about him allowing you to drink his blood, your other brothers would be angry to almost no end. Then, all their arguments had no sound. No voices whatsoever. Only, music? All you heard was the playing of a classical piano, a beautiful and calming tune working against your fear effectively. You felt a small pat on your head. It was Shu. You were still in Subaru's arms, now half-buried in his chest. Shu gave a small, genuine smile. He didn't want you to be scared.

You couldn't hear what he was saying, but you tried to make out the movements of his lips a small bit. Then you knew. He took out a earbud, in which you felt come out your ear. Then you could hear him better, and he moved his lips the same way he did before. "It's okay, (Y/N). Music is one of the only things to relax the mind. You're okay, now."

You nodded your head softly. "Thank you..."

"Shu. You mind taking (Y/N) for me? I don't want her to see Ayato and I go all out without any restraint." Subaru released a small amount of his grip on you.

Shu was stone-faced, pale of any expression. But you could definitely tell he was happy. He always did enjoy his company with you, you with him.

After a small fragment of time, Shu gave a small smile. "Sure. Maybe I could teach her some things. I much rather myself teach than Reiji."

Subaru nodded and handed you over in a Shu's arms. He was much warmer, despite the cold furry integrated with his skin. He gently put his earbud back in your ear as he carried you. You laid your small head against Shu's chest, and didn't even realize you closed your eyes. But then you knew why. The playing of the piano in your head felt so sweet, you couldn't help but be relaxed.

You felt Shu's grip tighten on you, but you didn't mind as the sweetness of classical music filled your mind with easiness.
