Life balanced out. Lafayette, Hercules, Laurens, Burr, and Alex were all the Hamilsquad. Her popularity as the smartest student on campus soared. Burr was her work partner, Lafayette and Hercules her drinking buddies. Laurens became a constant companion. He was always there with her, only pried from her side when it was absolutely necessary. Alex didn't mind. She didn't mind the constant physical contact, the constant company. She was so used to being alone. This was so different. She craved John's attention, though it was platonic. At least to her.

Alex was the top in every class, except Historical Goverment. Jefferson and Alex held the top position, tied.

Every class sparked a debate, though Professor Washington attempted to defuse every squabble. They agreed on nothing, argued whenever in a room together.

They had started school at the same time, Jefferson only a week earlier than Alex. They were matched both intellectually and when it came to grades, as Washington liked to say.

Being pulled out of class everyday due to arguing, in all three classes they shared, was draining.

They avoided each other as much as possible outside of class. Thomas took the dorm room most of the time, Alex sleeping at Lafayette and Laurens' apartment most nights. They were fine with this set up. When together in the dorm room, each acted as if the other didn't exist.

They spent the rest of the semester this way. And when the year ended, they said not a word to each other as they packed and departed. They knew they'd have to return in two months, but they tried to ignore this.

Alex moved in with Laurens and Lafayette for the summer, clinging to Laurens as desperately as he clung to her.

They went everywhere together; looking for jobs, studying for the next year, shopping. Alex gained employment at a Hot Topic at the mall, Laurens working next door at American Eagle.

Lafayette and Hercules were engaged that June, scheduled to be married that December. They all lived together in a frat house atmosphere. They all drank every Friday night; Burr included, until he is kept home with his new wife and soulmate, Theodosia.

Alex made money, had a group of friends of friends like no other, and was happy.

And for that one moment, everything was perfect. And then that moment ended.
