"You agreed to WHAT?" Lafayette demanded, eyes narrowed. Alex gave a bitter laugh, swirling her tea around."You guys got so upset about Britain taxing your tea.. Imagine what would happen if they tried to tax your whiskey." she laughed softly, blatantly ignoring Lafayette's look.
"Oh stop. Mon ami, this is a dangerous game." Lafayette said, and Hercules nodded.
"Stupid game. Its like friends with benefits. Without good benefits." Hercules said, shaking his head. Alex rolled her eyes. She pursed her lips, before meeting their gazes.
"I just have to see it all, guys." she stated, voice gentle. "I wanna see it all just once."
And once again, that greedy look returned to her eyes. Lafayette glanced at Hercules.
"I know, mon Alex.. Just.. be careful. Do not get hurt. Or Lafayette will have to make that Jefferson's red coat redder with his blood stains." Laf teased, a small smile on his face. Alex laughed.
"Its magenta. Not red. But thanks for the effort." she giggled, shaking her head. Lafayette took her hand across the table.
"Ah, what can I say? Immigrants-"
"We get the job done." he and Alex finished together, laughing.
Alex sighed, shaking her head.
"But don't worry. I will never fall in love with Thomas Jefferson."
-
"FUCK!"
"Hamilton, your nails!"
"Sorry, shitbag."
Jefferson had taken Alex ice skating. March was was still cold in New York as she discovered. This was the last time she'd be able to go this year, as Jefferson had informed her.
She struggled to move along the ice, as Jefferson glided with ease. She gripped his arm, gritting her teeth.
"Why did we have to do THIS?" she seethed, shooting daggers at his happy face. Jefferson rolled his eyes.
"Listen, Lil Bit. I'm not gonna sit around our room and take in those same colors over and over. I want to see the colors of all my favorite places." he explained, tone only slightly annoyed. Alex rolled her eyes.
"Prick." she mumbled, gripping his forearm harder.
"Immigrant."
She snorted.
There was a pregnant silence.
"What ever happened to Madison? You guys were basically joined at the hip." she finally inquired, looking up at his face.
His smile dropped, his jaw tightening.
"Jemmy.. Ah, James.. He wanted to give me space.. To find my soulmate." he explained after a moment. Alex cocked her head.
"Did he find his?"
Jefferson blinked.
"Yes.. Me." he said softly, eyes on the ice beneath him. Alex pursed her lips, knowing it was rude to pry.
But she did it anyways of course.
"What happened..?"
Jefferson swallowed, expression pained.
"Got too painful for him, I guess." he said simply, "He went back to Monticello."
Alex let that sink in. Madison was Jefferson's best friend. Jefferson had lost his best friend.
She knew how that felt.
"I was Laurens' soulmate.. But he wasn't mine." she offered in a gentle voice. Jefferson looked up, eyes wide. He didn't reply. Just listened.
"He.. died.. before he could tell me.. He left me a note.." she went on, eyes down. Jefferson cocked his head to the side.
"I'm.. so sorry.." he finally said, voice softer than she'd ever heard it. She pursed her lips again.
They skated in the silence, reminiscing of what they had both lost.

They hung out a few more times that week. They went to the movies, and actually got to see them in color. They went to a garden, and Thomas cried at the beauty of the flowers and trees. They went to the zoo, and Alex noticed all the vibrant colors. No wonder John had loved going there.
It wasn't until Monday morning, in Historical Government that a noticeable change occurred. Alex was early, like usual, sitting in the front.
However, when Thomas swaggered in, he didn't go to his normal seat in the back. He walked over to the seat next to Alex and sat down. She, along with everyone else in the room, gave him wide eyes.
"What are you DOING?" she hissed at him. Thomas gave her a look as if she was stupid. She scowled.
"Look at me like that again and I'll deck you." she snapped, making the corner of his lips tug up slightly.
"I wanted to see ole Washingmachine in color." he mumbled, placing his arm on the back of her chair. She was immediately met with colors, and she sighed.
"Fine." she said quietly, making Thomas grin.
A few minutes later, Washington waltzed in, humming. He did a literal double take at the sight of Alex and Thomas sitting together.
"What is THIS?" he asked, eyebrow raised. Alex felt herself flush deeply. Thomas gave a smile.
"Just with my friend Alexandra here, sir." he said, hugging Alex with the arm that rested on the chairs back. Alex didn't react, just stared at the floor.
Everyone eyed them like a pair of aliens.
"Just don't stab him, Hamilton." was all Washington said before starting his lecture on the Declaration of Independence.
Alex felt herself smile, while Jefferson muffled his laughter behind his free hand.
