The next morning, Alex was up late (not that she slept much) and out of the house. Jefferson was already gone, like normal. So she went for a walk, headphones in. She walked around the whole campus, letting her music lull her while she mulled over the night before.Thomas Jefferson was her former enemy. Her rival, her equal in every way. He was arrogant, spoiled at times, and a prick. But he was also gentle, smart, and caring. He loved deeply, never letting anyone tell him what to do. And Alex admired that.
Would it be so bad to love Jefferson?
Her soulmate.
She gave a small smile, shaking her head. She made her way back to dorm, several hours later.
She'd made up her mind. She'd tell Jefferson how she felt.
She unlocked the door, but didn't open it. The sound of voices made her pause.
"Jemmy, no.. No, she's not worth more than you.. You're my.. You're my best friend.." Thomas croaked in a pained voice. Alex stood outside the door, ear against the wood. She heard Madison sigh.
"She can give you colors," Madison began, tone a sad one. She could hear the desperation in Jefferson's voice with his next words.
"She's not you. Please, Jemmy James."
Alex felt her heart as well as her smile drop. She bit her lip, tears welling in her eyes.
She should've known.
She ran away before she could hear anything else.
She made it all the way to the bar, where she immediately ordered a shot. She downed it, and ordered another one. She gave Charles a look as if daring him to question her. He didn't, making a sour face as he filled her cup over and over.
Soon Jefferson was far from her mind.
// hmm.. wonder what drama is up ahead?
