Two weeks went by. Alex thought about her soulmate less and less, burying herself in her work, like normal.

The essay she'd turned in a few months ago on 'the Subject of Soulmates' was finally graded, and it got high marks. She was thrilled.

It was a normal Monday. She had Historical Government at 8 am. Washington strolled in. Roll call, and a subject for Hamilton and Jefferson to argue over.

People placed bets as to who would destroy who that day.

Today's subject? Healthcare.

Jefferson and Alex were firing back and forth, all up in each others faces.

And Alex didn't know what possessed her to do it. Maybe her irritation with Lafayette, with her life.

But she two hand shoved Thomas Jefferson.

And as soon as her hands met his chest, the colors of the classroom exploded around her.

Her breath caught in her throat, and her eyes went wide. Jefferson exclaimed in shock.

And she knew he'd seen them too.

Everyone went quiet. No one dared move.

Alex grabbed her things and stalked out, not looking back.

She didn't expect Jefferson to follow.

"Hamilton!" he yelled, running after her. She didn't stop. He grabbed her arm, forcing her to stop. The various hues of the hallway exploded around them.

Alex dropped her things, eyes wide. They both were silent as they took in their surroundings. Jefferson inhaled sharply.

"Whoa.." he mumbled, eyes wide. Their eyes met each other.

Jefferson had light brown skin, and deep brown eyes. He wore an annoying magenta hoodie, with annoyingly light blue pants and matching (annoying) magenta sneakers. She blinked, snatching her arm away. He blinked as well, scowling.

"So you.. You're it? You're my.. soulmate?" he asked, sounding uncomfortable with the word. Alex didn't answer immediately.

"How the fuck are we soulmates?" she breathed out instead, crossing her arms. Jefferson gave a breathy laugh.

"So we're meant to end up together." Jefferson deadpanned after a moment if awkward silence. Her eyes snapped up.

"Fuck no. There's no rule that says that soulmates have to plaster themselves to each other. I don't need a soulmate." she spat out the word, eyes narrowed. Jefferson glared.

"As IF I'd want you anyways, Raggedy Anne." he sneered, readjusting his bookbag on his back. Alex gave a derisive laugh.

"Good. So don't touch me, I won't touch you, and we'll forget about this whole ordeal." she said, eyes fixated on his. The greyscale didn't nearly capture how much of a pretty boy he was. Jefferson pursed his lips.

"Fine."

Alex didn't tell Lafayette, or anyone for that matter of her connection to Jefferson. They skated around each other, only speaking when in class. Their debates got more intense, their words more scathing, intended to hurt.

Washington banned all debating after Jefferson promptly called Alexandra a 'Creole bastard'. This made for quiet days in the classroom, where Alex and Jefferson avoided each other's eyes.
