"Hey y/n, check out my sweet new creation!" My childhood friend Kaito beckons me over to his work station.

I put down the book I was reading and walk over. Kaito is covered in grease and sweat from working all day. He pushes back his black hair from his silver eyes and looks at me excitedly. "I think this is my best one yet!" I turn my eyes to the table, where a machine in the shape of a cat is sitting. Kaito has a Quirk that can control any machine he wants. All he has to do is touch it and it obeys his every command. He started to build machines at a young age so he could use the full potential of his Quirk. Especially since his Quirk has a limit, the bigger the machine the less time he has to control it.

I study the cat in front of me. It doesn't look like much. "What makes it the best?"

"I gave it all the features it needs to be an ultimate machine while keeping it as small as possible! It can turn invisible with a camouflage component, it can move at high speeds because of the engines on the back of its legs, an idea I based off of the hero Ingenium, and it's got razor blade teeth and retractable claws. He's perfect!" Kaito taps the cat on the head and its eyes light up, coming to life.

"He? I though machines are usually referred to as 'she'."

"I'm calling him Kuro," Kaito says, ignoring what I said.

"You should show the Boss, he'll probably want to use it right away."

"Only if you come with me!"

"I'm not showing my face there ever again, and I already told you that," I reply and walk back to where I was sitting, picking up my book and placing the bookmark on the page I was reading, then snapping the book shut. "I'm going home, entrance exams are tomorrow." I turn back Kaito with a fierce look. "I trust you won't say anything about my application?"

"Of course (y/n)-chan, I won't say a thing," he reassures me, turning back to his work as I open the door.

I step outside into the cool night air. I usually hang out with Kaito for the latter half of the day, since he works most of the time. He works for my dad's corporation. I used to work there as well, but I quit. The work there didn't... 'suit' me. Kaito and I used to be partners, and after I quit he went solo. He still complains it's lonely there without me. Every time he brings up rehiring me I leave, since I don't want to tell him the real reason I left. This isn't the first secret I've kept from people. Secrets are my strong suit, I can lie so well even I believe I'm telling the truth. I've had to lie ever since my Quirk manifested. Only people at my dad's corporation and my mom know about my Quirk.

But now I'm going to U.A, where keeping secrets is about to get a whole lot harder with so many people there. Of course, that's only if I get in. I'd say I'm a bit above average in terms of school grades, with mostly B's and a couple A's. But my true strength lies in my real Quirk, though I won't be able to show it off.

My real Quirk is Gene Alteration. It doesn't sound like much, but it's power is extreme. My Quirk allows me to map out the genes of anyone I touch. It also allows me to alter the genes of someone I touch, or myself. I've developed my Quirk so that I can change just the Quirk genes, which means I can switch between Quirks that I've mapped out. My Quirk is a combination of my mother's and my father's. My mother has a gene mapping Quirk, and my father has an atom alteration Quirk, which means he can alter the atoms of whatever he touches, though he can't alter organisms.

I arrive at my house, which has a entrance located in a small alleyway. It's barely noticeable, so it was perfect for my mother and myself to move into after I quit. The reason I needed to move to such a discrete, inconvenient apartment in order to protect my mother? The corporation I worked for... well it's not a normal corporation.

Author's Note: And you'll find out more in the next chapter! I post daily btw, so expect a new chapter tomorrow!
