Cavalry Battle

Once I catch my breath I turn around to look for Uraraka to return her Quirk. It takes her a little to finish in at 26th place. She spots me and jogs over.

"You were amazing!" She holds up her hand for a high five. As we make contact I return her Quirk.

"Sorry I had to take your Quirk, there was no one else close enough for me to borrow from."

She smiles at me. "Don't worry about it!" She looks behind me for a moment. "I think we're all gathering over there."

I turn around as she points to see where the rest of the students who finished are gathered around a stage with Midnight. Uraraka and I hurry to join them.

Only those who placed in the top 42 during the Obstacle Course are participating in the Cavalry Battle. Midnight starts to go over the rules. Everyone is assigned a different amount of points based on how they placed. First place, Midoriya, is worth 10,000,000 points. Second place is 205, third is 200, and the rest count down in increments of five. We form teams of 3-4. Your team is worth the amount of points of each person combined. During the battle you steal other people's headbands.

I don't have to be the rider for my team, since whatever position I'm in I'll have access to everyone's Quirks. It'll be best to team up with people who are both powerful and have limits.

It looks like people are crowding around Todoroki and Bakugo the most. Bakugo would never let me Plunder his Quirk, so no point trying him. Instead I walk over to Todoroki. I can feel a plan forming in my mind already. It just might work...

"Todoroki!" I call out shoving my way through the crowd. "Me, you, Kaminari, and Iida." I pause, giving him a minute to think it over. "Iida is a good defense, I can take over for Kaminari if he short circuits, and I can Plunder from a different team, so those in our class will be less likely to attack."

He seems to ponder it for a moment, but eventually nods in agreement. Good, I should be able to make it into the next round with this team. Everyone else who was crowding Todoroki leaves to find a different group, and we start to talk strategy. Since this group was my idea I begin.

"For positions, I think it should be Iida in front, me on the left, and Kaminari on the right. That's assuming you won't use your left side, Todoroki." I look at him for confirmation.

"I can win without it," he mutters, suddenly pissed off.

I shrug and turn to everyone else. "Since that sides more vulnerable it's best to have a variety of Quirks available on that side, and it'll be avoided by people in our class since I could steal one of their Quirks."

Everyone else seems to agree, and the timer goes off, letting us know it's time to start the Cavalry Battle. We form up, and I have a vague idea of what Todoroki intends to start off with.

I want to take a look at the other teams and assess which is most dangerous, but the battle starts and suddenly we're racing towards Midoriya with the rest of the teams. I can't help but think this is a bad idea, wouldn't it be easier to freeze everyone to give us a better shot at getting Midoriya's headband? There has to be a reason that wasn't Todoroki's first instinct. I'll trust him to make the decisions.

We approach Midoriya, but is it really a good idea to take his headband this early in the game? Then we'll be the target. It's better to collect other headbands to ensure second place, then go after Midoriya's to claim first.

I hesitate to voice my plan. I should be keeping my head down for now, I can't run the risk of being recognized. Just for this event I'll go with the flow, let someone else make the decisions. Besides, with this team we certainly will make it into the next round.

Time Skip (sorry I can't seem to write the action for the Cavalry battle, but I need to get a move on with the story)

We took first, barely managing to snatch the ten million points at the end. The next round will be announced soon. All I can worry about is being found out. It'll ruin everything I worked for. But, if I were to get found out, wouldn't that mean my father has nothing on me and can't force me to take Kinoshita's quirk. Does that mean that my father will see to it I'm not found out? Or could it be a golden opportunity to get away from fulfilling my father's wishes without incurring his wrath? If I fail to do what he asks, he won't just ruin my chances of becoming a hero. He's capable of a lot worse. But if I was discovered, if I could no longer take this path, why would Kinoshita have any reason to trust me? My father would understand that I no longer can take his quirk. So the best option for me might be to stand out here. It's a test, to see if I can stand out without being found out.

I finish off the rest of the water bottle and toss it into the recycling bin. Slightly more excited to take on the final challenge of the sports festival, I make my way back to the arena.
