Vic POV
I didn't want to do this. This was the last thing I ever wanted to do, but it had to be done. And it had to be done soon.

I stared at myself in the mirror, questioning who I was and what I was about to do.  How could I do this to someone that I loved?

Don't think, I told myself. Don't think. Just do.

I took a deep breath, walking out of the bathroom and into my room. I grabbed my phone, ready to send the message before I stopped.

I couldn't do it like this. No, he deserved better.

Better than me.

To: Kellin<3

Hey, can we talk?

From:Kellin<3

Sure, what about?

To: Kellin<3

No, I mean, can we meet somewhere and talk?

From: Kellin<3

Okay...where were you thinking?

To: Kellin<3

The park.

"From: Kellin<3

Like where the kids play, right?

To: Kellin<3

No. Where we had our date.

From:Kellin<3

Why the hell would I want to go back there?

To:Kellin<3

Just...meet me there, alright?

I felt my phone buzz with another text from him, but I didn't bother to check it. I knew that no matter how much he protested, he trusted me enough to go wherever I wanted him to.

I let out a sigh, slipping on my shoes and throwing on a jacket before heading out.

It was time.

"Hey, Vic," Kellin smiled nervously. He looked around. "Why'd you want to meet me here...of all places?"

"Because I need you to think about what happened here the other night, and how scared you might have felt. I need you to remember that feeling, and then I need you to leave and never come back."

He looked startled. "What?"

I met his eyes. "Kellin, I can't be with you anymore, and I want you to understand that."

"What the hell? Why?"

"I'm no good for you, darling. You can't be with me any longer."

"No," he said, shaking his head and taking a step forward. "I'm not going to let you do this, Vic."

"You have to stay away from me."

"Why?" he whimpered. "Vic, I love you..."

"I know, and I love you too. But I can't be with you, not while knowing what I'm capable of doing to you."

"Please don't leave me," he whispered. "I need you so much, please don't leave."

"All I'm going to do is hurt you..."

"Vic," he pleaded. "Please don't do this."

"Sweetheart, I have to," I murmured, touching his face.

"Not if you love me, you don't!" he snapped suddenly, jerking away from me. His eyes were blue fire, and I could feel the heat. "If you really loved me, you would stay!"

"Don't even play that card with me! You know damn well that I love you, Kellin!"

He slumped forward, the anger gone as suddenly as it appeared. "I know, just...can't you stay? For me? Don't you love me enough to stay with me?"

"I do love you, which is why I'm doing this. All I'm going to do is hurt you."

"No, you won't!"

"I almost got you killed!"

"It was my fault!"

"How in the hell was it your fault, Kellin?" I shouted. "Did you just decide to invite a bunch of wild Demons to our date so they could scare the living shit out of you and try to kill you?"

"It's my fault for not being enough!" he screamed. "I'm just a fucking Mortal, and you could never be with me, right? I'm not enough for you, am I right? You know I'm right! Why don't you man up and tell me that I'm right?"

"Because you're wrong! You are enough for me! You'll always be enough to me! I'm not leaving you because of something you did, you imbecile! I'm leaving you because I'm no good for you! You deserve a normal boyfriend, who won't almost get you killed by his enemies!"

"Do you really think I could settle for normal after being with you, Vic?" he yelled, sounding incredulous. "After living in your world and seeing what you see, do you really fucking think I can settle for less?"

"No," I answered calmly. "But you're going to have to."

"No, I'm not."

"Kellin, don't make this harder than it needs to be."

"Don't make this happen!"

"I have to!" I roared. "Do you really think I'd be able to live with myself if they got you? If they killed you? Kellin, I love you, but I have to leave you!"

We were both breathless from screaming at each other. I was surprised that no one had tried to come and break us up, but then again, we were in the secluded part of the park.

I could pinpoint the exact moment when Kellin realized that he wasn't going to win. He looked at me with hurt eyes, swimming in tears.

"So this is it?" he asked quietly. I nodded slowly, taking a deep breath.

"I guess so."

"Can I ask one thing?"

"Of course."

"Did you ever really love me?"

I was hurt, and I was sure that it showed on my face. "Of course I did-do-Kellin. Always. Never forget that."

"I won't," he whispered. "One last hug?"

I held open my arms, my heart aching with pain. "C'mere."

He collapsed into my arms, sobbing. "I'm going to miss you," he whimpered into my neck, holding onto my hair.

I wrapped my arms around him tightly, inhaling his scent once more. "Me too," I whispered, looking blankly at the sunset in front of us.

"Me too."
