We finally made it to Kentucky, after the diner incident I don't know whether or not to be happy with the fact that Dean was there to defend me or be offended because I can take care of myself. I'm sitting in the back of the impala flipping through more obituaries for the murders that we connected to the house.
"You find anything" Sam asks turning sideways in the front seat to look at me.
"Nope" I say emphasizing the p sound.
"Did Dean say something" Sam asks gently.
I sigh and put my files down and look at the younger Winchester.
"It's not anything he said, I'm not used to having people who will stick up for me. It's all new to me" I say looking down at my shoes.
"Well, you'll have to get used to it because we protect the people we care about" Sam says warmly.
I smile at him and he smiles back, Dean knocks on the door holding up the room keys for our motel rooms.
We get all unpacked and settled in, who knows how long this case will take, with all the death echoes and graves to find.
"Here" Dean says handing over my key.
"Thanks" I say smiling at him.
He smiles back, his eyes sparkling.
"Why does Ryan get her own room? We have to share" Sam asks putting his hands on his hips.
"Because Sammy I'm a lady" I say patting his arm.
"You heard her" Dean chuckles pushing Sam to their room.
Which is joined with a door to my room, I laugh at the pout on Sam's face for a grown man he sure knows how to play up the little boy charm.
I chuck my duffel bag on my bed and stretch my arms gently and my legs one at a time until the stiffness is gone. I change the wrap on my legs my arms are better today finally I'm healing.
The door opens. It's Dean.
"We can canvas in the morning" He says pointing to a sound asleep Sam.
"Good call" I say taking a second to appreciate Dean with just his jeans and a t shirt.
"Night" Dean says.
"Night" I reply.
~In the morning~
The morning greeting me with rain as if telegraphing my feelings were about the things that happened to me. But on persistent knocking on the adjoining door snapped me out of my thoughts.
"What" I ask sitting up.
"We need to canvas" Sam's voice floats through the door.
"At 8 am"? I tell back to him.
"Dean's idea not mine" He replies.
I nod and quickly shower and throw on my suit cringing at the scars left behind from Colorado. I join the boys in their room, all ready to go.
"You just couldn't wait could you" I ask the elder Winchester.
"Nope" He says grinning at me.
I shake my head and get in the car, Sam gets into his spot next to his brother.
I open my note book and look through the things I wrote about Arthur and the killings that have happened since.
"I wonder why he started killing people after all those years? I mean he was dormant for so long, then bam murder central" I say leaning on the back of the front seat.
"Well maybe he's tied to the house some how" Sam offers typing on his laptop.
"Poltergeist" Dean asks.
"I'm not getting the poltergeist vibe yet, I'm thinking vengeful spirit" I say leaning back in my seat.
"Ryan, did you see this article about how his wife tried to leave him? She was his first victim" Sam asks holding up his computer so I could see it.
Maybe that's why people kept dying, he's is going after couples who are having the same problem he did.
"That's why it's always been a couple, he's going after people who remind him of his life. So, many people died their echoes are lashing out" I say having a light bulb moment.
"That actually makes more sense than him being a poltergeist. He caused them so much pain, that now they are offing people" Sam says also having a light bulb moment.
"You two are so geeky" Dean chuckles shaking his head.
We pull up to the first house of one of the relatives of Anna Faith who was the most recent victim.
"This is her grandmothers house, her name is Emma" Sam says getting out the impala.
I smack Dean on the arm, he turns to look at me with a 'what was that for' look.
"It was for calling me geeky" I say over my shoulder catching up to Sam.
"Sammy, you are the tiniest bit geeky" I laugh patting his arm.
"I don't think so" He says knocking on the door.
A few seconds later, an elderly woman with silver hair and warm brown eyes opens the door.
"Can I help you" She asks, eyeing Sam and Dean.
"I'm Lacey Colton, FBI. I was just wondering if we could ask you some questions about you granddaughter" I ask trying to draw her focus away from the Winchesters.
Her eyes flick back to me, after a long fifteen seconds she nods.
We follow her to the living room, we all sit down.
"What would you like to know my dear" Emma asks, looking at me.
"We know Anna moved into a new house with her boyfriend. Was there any problems with the relationship"? I ask leaning toward her, elbows on my knees.
"They had their fights like any other couple. But it did seem like the fights were more frequent after that moved into that house" She says.
"Did Anna ever talk to you about the house? If anything strange happened there" Sam asks.
Emma glances at Sam then looks back at me.
"She told me that every once in a while she'd hear footsteps and the lights would flicker" Emma says sipping her tea.
"Anything else" Dean asks offering Emma a smile.
"Anna didn't like the house, James liked it. Her boyfriend" Emma says sadly.
"Thank you Emma, this helps us a lot" I say closing my note book.
"Your welcome, agent Colten" Emma says.
Sam and Dean nod at the sweet old lady. We walk back to the car.
"Who's next" Dean asks leaning on the impala.
"Andy and Isobel Richards. Parents of victim number two" Sam says reading his notes.
"Lets go" Dean says getting in the car.
