Chapter 17

Getting to know

Kanae's POV:

I walked up to one of the ice cream shops in the resort and got one vanilla in a cone. Ever since I've been on the land, I've been enjoying the savories they have. It has more taste than at home.

I got to cone part when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned to see the doctor who helped Kaoru weeks ago.

"Hi. You're Kaoru's friend, am I right?" he asked.

"Yes. Kanae Hiragana. And you are... sorry, I forgot," I smiled awkwardly.

"It's okay. We only met a few seconds anyway. I'm Taishi Kenkei."

"Okay Taishi-san."

"Just call me Taishi. I'm not used to calling my name with 'san'."

"Okay. You're here for a break?"

"Actually, I took a leave today. I just need a little rest. Don't worry. Injuries aren't too common here so they're fine. We only have a few patients in the hospital so it's fine."

"Okay," I smiled. "Thanks for taking care of Kaoru. I appreciate it."

"No problem. That's what we do. Anyways, where is she?"

"She's taking a break. Probably hanging out with her friends. How bad was her injuries?"

"Bad. A few broken bones and a bruise on her cheek. How is the guy able to beat her up that badly? He doesn't look so strong."

"He doesn't look too strong but he's very strong. I have no idea why but, that's who he is."

Man, he seriously reminds of Kazou. They look so similar...

"Hey, Kanae? Are you there?" he snapped his fingers at my face.

I shook my head. "Hehe, sorry... I guess I was just thinking..."

"About what?"

"My boyfriend. I just miss him."

"Oh. Why? Did he go somewhere?"

"He died. But, I don't want to talk about that," I said as I finished my ice cream.

~Time Skip~

"Are we going to fall?" I asked shakily.

"No. It's secure. Why? You're afraid of heights?"

"Yeah. I haven't gone up this h-high before..."

After eating our ice cream, Taishi decided we hang out so we went to the carnival near the resort. We are currently halfway up in the Ferris wheel. I think that's what it's called.

I crept onto Taishi's back, not wanting to look down at the ground. I feel my legs shaking with fear. "W-when will it be o-over?"

"A minute, I guess?"

"Oh man. I wanna go down..."

"Just, come here," he said and hugged me from behind. I blushed slightly at the contact as he wrap his arms around my waist. "Just calm down, take a deep breath, and look down," he whispered in my ear.

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and slowly looked down. I can see the rest of the carnival. A lot of stands and rides are sitting at the ground. I stared at it, amazed at the view.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" I heard him ask.

"Y-yeah..." I smiled.

After a while, we got down and ran towards a cotton candy stand. I have no idea what it is and when I saw it, it looked like the fluffy white things on the sky. I have no idea what are those called.

"Here," Taishi said, giving me a blue cotton candy. I got it and took a bite. He also got a blue one for himself.

We pretty much enjoyed the rest of the day. We stayed at the carnival until night and got tired. I now got used to being with other humans here, even though it's very noisy unlike at home. We walked back at the small houses in the resort. I turned to face him.

"Thanks for bringing me there. It was fun," I smiled.

"Yeah. We should do it again sometime," he smiled back.

"I guess I should go. Bye," I said and waved. I went in the house.

A/N: Got bored and had no idea what to write in all of my stories so, I decided to have a little love story of mine.
