Our family went to the lake every sunday, even after Mom left. It's on the opposite side of the city and is probably the most beautiful place here. Not many people went there as there was no direct road towards it, people had to climb the hill and do a little more of hiking to reach there. But there's a road now, and I don''t know what to expect about the public.
Evan called and asked me to come to his office so that we can go together from there.
"Hey beautiful!" He greeted me with a warm smile and took his keys. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and a leather jacket black jeans that matched with mine, which I paired with a white tank-top and a shrug."We better get going, or else it'll start to rain. You see the clouds?" He was right. The clouds were dark, like they were about to cry and scream. But it didn't rain quite a lot in San Marina, It was a fascinating sight when we were kids, as if we saw snow.
"I don't think it would." I said as we went out of the office and sat in his car.
It was a 20 minute drive to the lake. All the way till there we sang all the songs that came up on the radio. Lost boy, Song for someone, Steal my girl, and Where my love goes. I can say his voice is pretty good when he sang. Like, if it can get any better. It made something in my stomach tickle to catch him looking at me when he sang.
The wind was so good outside but it did messed up my hair, more than it already was.Soon we were there. He pulled out a sheet from the back of his car and we walked to the lake. There was no one there. It was Sunday, but still not even a kid was there. Maybe everyone was busy spending time with family before their schools started.
"This is so beautiful." I almost whispered. But maybe Evan heard it because he smiled at me. He'll always know, even if I whisper. Even if I think.
We found the spot with the most beautiful view and lay the sheet there. Every corner of that place was getting more beautiful every time I looked at it. This is what happens when I am with Evan. I feel things get more and more beautiful than they were any time before I met him.
We sat down with our legs stretched out and our hands holding the weight of the rest of our body behind us.
"I read your works."
"My works? Like on the internet?" I asked.
"Yes."
"What do you think about it?" I asked casually. Looking at the still but clear lake water.
"You write so beautifully." He was also looking at the lake but turned to face me as he spoke further "The inside of you must be a terrible place." And he smiled. We both did.
"Can I ask you something?" He folded his knees and wrapped his hands around them like they were holding it from falling apart.
I nodded.
"How was your Dance?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Just curious." He shrugged.
"Well, No one asked me to go with them so I worked an extra shift at the cafe. And I didn't wanted to show up alone. Everyone I knew had a date." I watched my feet bend left and then right and then again left as I spoke.
"You didn't have a date?" He narrowed his eyes and gave me a confused look. "Boyfriend?"
"Had one. Broke up with me for someone else." I felt embarrassment rush inside me. Maybe telling him that I was dumped was an embarrassing thing.
"He must have been really stupid to leave something like this. Someone like you."
He said softly and looked at me "Maybe it's for good.""Totally. He was a jerk, I don't think he ever loved me. Maybe I didn't too."
