V E R AI woke up inhaling the strong smell of lavender.
That's odd, where am I?
I also became aware that I was no longer on a chair and instead was laying on a mattress. I sat up a bit confused.
Who put me here?
I was so deep in thought that I didn't see Jonathon appear in the doorway.
"Enjoy laying in my bed?
Heat rose up to my cheeks.
"You smell like lavender." I hear a chortle.
"You were smelling me?" his eyes gleaming with amusement. My eyes widened and I quickly expended my arms in front of me.
"No, no, I was j-just saying because your b-bed sme-," I exclaimed, tripping over my words.
"Relax kid, I use lavender scented lotion," a grin still prominent in his voice.
This is oddly nice, I haven't felt this happy since mom.
"Kid? You alright there? What's going on inside that noggin," I choked on my saliva at the humorous term.
"Did a big scary gang leader just say the word 'noggin'?" I let out a breathy chuckle and I see Jonathon blush.
He tries to change the subject, "Do you want breakfast? I'll bring it up for you. I don't think my men would appreciate me catering to our hostage."
"Why are you being so nice to me?"
The words blurted out of my mouth before I could stop it. He froze but he kept a cool look on his face.
"I'll be right back," he glanced at me one last time before heading downstairs to retrieve my food.
Jonathon and a handful of other men had gone somewhere. I was alone, laying on his mattress reading his books. Apparently, Jonathon was very much into romance books. I tried to stifle a giggle as I imagined Jonathon reading the book in my hands currently, The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks.
Suddenly, the door burst open and a bloodied Jonathon stumbled into our room. My eyes widened and I rushed over. He was biting his bottom lip in pain as I tried to soothe him by running my fingers through his velvety hair.
"What happened?"
"Gang fight, one of them brought a pistol and shot me," he gritted his teeth out of agony.
"Why did no one fix you up?"
"Everyone's gone right now and the guys I was with ran away." I looked at his blood wound and realized if he didn't get treatment, he'd bleed out. I observed the wound, it was deep. I needed to sanitize it and stitch it.
"Do you have medical tools?" I looked at him with urgency and his deep blue eyes stared back at me.
"Downstairs, I'll get the-" he grunted and held his side. I ran downstairs and quickly grabbed the materials before running back up, tripping over a few steps.
I get back to the room to see Jonathon sitting on his mattress, a tired look in his eyes. I approached him and stroked his cheek.
"I need to sanitize it. It's going to sting, are you ready?" I spoke softly. He looked at me and his sad eyes looked innocent. I started to dab the alcohol onto his wound and he winced.
"I'm sorry," I cringed as I continued dabbing. His intense gaze was on me the entire time. When I finished, the cotton ball was bloodied.
"You'll also need stitches," I whispered to him. He just nodded while I looked through the box for a sharp needle, pricking my finger to make sure it wasn't dull. I expertly strung the thread through the needle hole and quickly sewed it up. Jonathon was still staring at me, deep in thought.
"I'm done," I smiled at him but he kept a serious face.
"Why'd you help me?"
gonna post as much as i can these next few days bc i have a summer job and i might not have time so yea!
